31 this morning, one of the few times the low was 5 degrees lower than the forecast 36.

I hit 35 this morning twice it looks like, definitely a bit below our forecast low as well.

Our leaves down here went pretty much from green to red and then down, and everything is starting to look a bit grey.

All the parks and recreation spots around my area and up into Sussex county have Extreme Fire Danger signs posted.  I live across the street from Berkshire Valley Wildlife Preserve, took a walk there yesterday and it is just bone dry and dusty.  No improvement for at least a week and maybe 10 days.  Terrible.  I'm honestly surprised fires have not been more numerous across the state.

The County Executive here in Orange County issued a State of Emergency yesterday banning all outside burning except for charcoal and gas grills for cooking.

A very memorable event with the record snow and NYC dropping to 33° in October. Most recent years have been struggling to get below 40° in October. Many more top 10 warmest minimums above 40° for the month these days. The rare recent exception was October 2020 that got to 32° which foreshadowed that great winter pattern relative to the last several winters.

I don’t know how many of you are familiar with the trails that go from Belmont Park in North Babylon down to Argyle and the GSB in Babylon but they are (unsurprisingly) bone dry. Ive been doing the bike now on the trails because I’m saving my pulled groin for men’s league footie games and the dirt is almost coarse sand at this point. Those trails are (imo) usually damp and slightly muddy even on days with no precip and this past week I had to be real careful not to wipeout on the sandy twist-and-turns.
