Why was CT and inland better in this than out east where they had HWW?

SE MA had 50kts and probably RI. Then also Srn NH..MHT tops them all. I'd say close to 55mph-ish here.  Probably a little convective mixing in spots. I am getting some of the best winds now behind the rain.

It also seems like the core of the LLJ actually crossed over Connecticut. I think some of the guidance the past few days actually kept this more across RI and SE MA. This combined with a few hundred J of MUCAPE and sfc temps well into the 50's probably did the trick.

I mean it was modeled to move over at 925 most areas. Warmer temps and maybe a little downslope in the valley? Seems like valley did the best.

Our strongest gusts were after the convection . Pretty much after the rain had ended . There were a couple massive rips

That's a good thought. Definitely some enhancement in the valley. BDL was sustained 30-35 for some hours...that's not bad at all.
