Don’t you recall how much of SNE was running 10-20” deficits going back to like 2014? We have since made up much of it these last 2 years. It’s the reason why the gypsy moths exploded and caused so much damage from 2016-2019

Did you get hit on the head? That's absolutely true. Worst drought since the 60s that Will mentioned.

At UMass, 1.9".  Of that 1.15" fell on 5/1.  And another .4 in about 15 minutes on 5/15 with the line of thunderstorms, some of which runs off when falling so fast.  Only .1" in the last 2 weeks.

Yikes, yeah that's pretty low.  The last two weeks especially with a lot of full sun and low RH.

Drought talk in New England is nonsense.

Too young to remember the early-mid 1960s?  1965 is the driest year on record for 6 of the 7 coastal states DE to MA, with NY missing out due to the significantly drier climo on the southern tier counties.  However, 1965 is NYC's driest in their 151-yr POR (by more than 6"!) while '64 is #2 and '63 at #4.  1966 was close to the 1965 rates until 5.5" fell on 9/21 and was actually worse until that event, due both to drought duration and because met summer '66 was the hottest (now 2nd behind 2010) and driest on record.  One of my notable wx trivia memories is that some central/west VA sites got more rain in 5 hours from Camille's remains than NYC got in all of 1965.

I was in college that. year and houses In Brooklyn with accessible backyards were actually drilling wells. At that time the concern for the quality of that water was not a factor. The well water was used, primarily, for pools and gardening. As  always .....

a day like today? no breeze and a bit oppressive? hmm.. well lets see if they come out of the closet and confirm.

add me to the dew crew

very tolerable out this way, upper 70s and mostly cloudy with a nice breeze so far. hopefully we can get some sun and get those temps into the 80s

Semi agree. Seemingly not a year goes by when the local paper isn't quoting a farmer blaming climate change for whatever the most recent conditions are, as though the 'right mix' year you describe used to be the norm.  But the fact is that it's been one of the driest Mays on record, with a quite a bit of sun and low dews (save the last few days) and more en route.  So they'll be hurting and the fact it isn't a threat to the public water supply in metro boston is irrelevant.

Most farmers have been at it awhile and have irrigation figured out.  More effort and $$$ but unless it gets real bad they will figure it out

Torching pretty good again... 84/65!

This week has all had days that are above our normal max summer climo.  Our max climo highs are like 82-83F in late July and the last 4 days have been 89/93/84/84.

The only way to cool off is to find some glacial pond at elevation.  The dog knows how to cool off.
