I kind of thought that by now that perhaps they would be disrupting the flow abit. I guess not.... I think as long as the eyewall is clear of the island it wont have that much of an effect, though we might see some temporary weakening of the eyewall once the storm passes if it sucks in some air off the downslope. I wonder if the land interaction is actually helping to disrupt the usual pace of ERCs.

Lookout
Folks..there is no need for two dozen people to answer the same question.. if you see someone else has already answered a basic question please refrain from responding. One or two people answering is more than enough.

KPITSnow
As far as surge goes in Florida, I am worried that even it does weaken, that this will be like Katrina and produce a cat 5 level surge even if it landfalls at sat a cat 3.

Tater Tot
The 2011 population in Barbuda was only 1,638. If it really did kill 1,000+, that's a sizable chunk of the whole civilization.
pazzo83
60+% of the entire population seems like a ton - man I hope that is wrong.
eyewall
Yeah I think 1,000 deaths is very inaccurate. That is an irresponsible tweet.

PressureDrop2017
The ABS- TV (Antigua and Barbuda) are reporting ONE fatality on Barbuda. Not one thousand people dead. However they are also reporting "90 percent of the housing stock on Barbuda is decimated" .. implying that the large majority of the ~1600 people who were on Barbuda have been left homeless or severely damaged homes. I listened live to the Prime Minister's report from Barbuda and his sat phone audio quality was terrible. Sounded to me like he said "1 fatality". No one should take the 1,000 report seriously until we get more info. Hopefully it's wrong.

canderson
The 1,000 Barbuda death number IS NOT CORRECT. The tweet later repeatedly mentions the line was awful and they weren't clear on that number and likely meant buildings. Only 1 fatality reported to date.
