We dry out a few days before we get back into more rainfall. This is a drought buster pattern. Asheville has nearly 9 inches This month and Raleigh has nearly 13 inches which is more rainfall in 1 month than the past 6 months combined.

Absolutely wild comeback this morning. Textbook ERC and, under pristine conditions it didn't take long go nuclear for a second time in 2 days. What a specimen

Hoping this is a start of a new cooler, wetter trend for us.

Looking at the ensembles and other guidance, I do think if the overall 500mb pattern is true...we might get a shot at more NW flow-style severe events beyond the first week of August. While not perfect matches, I do see an similar angle to the 500mb flow from some of our notable severe events from the past.

I knew if we could get some sun we'd be cooked. From west to east. Some crazy cells popped up and extremely heavy rainfall.

2026 Mid-Atlantic Severe Storm General Discussion
wxmeddler replied to Kmlwx's topic in Mid Atlantic
Trees are the real killer to reliability. A major issue is that we're getting to the point in some of the older suburbs / planned communities that the trees planted at the time of housing construction are reaching the post-maturity age. They are going to fail/fall, and unless the landowner / HOA / town / county is on top of it (they are not), then you're gonna get outages with 30 mph gusts.- 1,680 replies

Meanwhile all the PEPCO hate from the 2000s and 2010s has largely faded. Their tree trimming program and preventive maintenance has been absurd the past 10 years or so. An event like yesterday in the earlier 2000s could have easily have 250K+ customers without power in the region.

Do you think I’ll see one this summer? I honestly don’t . These things set patterns early in season. You always notice the same areas get hit over and over. An example is my dad’s in New Milford. Dudes had at least 10 legit storms this summer including trees down in 2 of them . I talked to him yesterday and he had just gotten crushed Monday night . Meanwhile can’t buy a bolt here

According to their mesonet: 4-6 inch totals up that way since last night. 7-9 inch totals for the past 24 hours. Someone is underwater with those amounts.
