Will be localized and some locations will do better than others but some heavy downpours possible in spots for sure. Another steamy day today. I had exactly 0.5" in the plastic gauge on my back deck post. It put on a helluva show that I didn't expect. You'll catch the next one and then I'll miss out. It doesn't show on the map, but I think parts of far NW Sussex County had well in excess of a inch since they got hit with the earlier part of the round too. Edit: 1.27" at Sandyston Mesonet (Rutgers)

Line reformed right after our town. Yup. Lucked out with that one. Looked like the line was mostly collapsing (with occasional localized pulses), but strengthened just to my west and dropped an unexpected 0.44". Luck of the draw. 1

Just an incredible start to summer for the summer lovers. This shows the projected ranks for average high temperatures for the first half of June [using observed values for 1-11 and forecast highs 12-15]. Top 5 heat all over, record heat at Newark, NJ and Concord, NH. It has certainly been a very solid start to the summer season.

Looking at Newark and using the expanded records [back to 1843], we see the current record is 86.5F from 2008 & 1984 [excepting the 3 higher years - all of which are based on only a single date's worth of data]. This brings the EWR average up to 86.6F by Monday - incredibly impressive.

donsutherland1
Very warm conditions will likely continue through Sunday. Cooler weather will return for at least the first half of next week. Some rain is also likely early next week, but rainfall amounts could be fairly light. The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +2.6°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +1.3°C for the week centered around June 3. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +1.95°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +0.98°C. The ongoing El Niño will continue to strengthen through the summer. The SOI was -15.11 yesterday. The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was +0.364 today. Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied near 77% probability that New York City will have a warmer than normal June (1991-2020 normal). June will likely finish with a mean temperature near 74.5 (2.5° above normal). That would tie June 2026 the seventh warmest June on record with 1984. Supplemental Information: The projected mean would be 3.1° above the 1981-2010 normal monthly value.
