If you want some real giggles, head on over to the SPC meso analysis and see where the Violent Tornado Parameter (located under Composite Indices) is bullseyed.

That kind of SCP/SIGTOR bulls-eye is excellent for this time of year Mid-Atlantic or NEUS.

And despite all the clouds and earlier showers, sfc-based CAPE is high w/ the bulls-eye just SE of the metro and a good gradient N suburbs.  Current svr storm to the W ride that gradient (boundary)!

Hrrr has been insistent that the Loudoun-Frederick cluster is the entire show for areas north of DC

That cluster looks like garbage. Just a bunch of crapvection. Tornado risk is the best east of here into S New Jersey, IMO.

Got clipped in Frederick by what can only be described as a tropical level downpour. It completely matches the humidity level preceding it.

Absolutely felt tropical. A few rumbles of thunder but just poured for 30 min straight

Fwiw, SPC disco from the tornado watch makes it seem we see storms this evening

SUMMARY...Scattered severe thunderstorms are forecast to continue to
develop and intensify through the afternoon and into the evening. A
few of the stronger storms will be supercells capable of a risk for
tornadoes, damaging gusts, and large hail. A consolidation of
storms will probably occur during the evening as one or two line
segments develops with an attendant risk for damaging winds and
   possibly a tornado.
