Just Came Across Live TV!!

BIGGEST STORM IN PROVIDENCE HISTORY.

 32.8”

**The BLIZZARD OF 1978 has FALLEN**

 :snowman::drunk:

Depth wise officially yes but as far as coverage in a larger area and drift wise no. The winds created much higher drifts in 78. Maybe because it started with wet snow in this one that held the drifts back some. I'm 65 and could not believe the mountains of drifts as high as 20 feet. Downtown Providence started dumping the snow in the river. They stopped because it started damming up at the bridges and almost overflowed the river. I would give this a close 90% to the 78. Here I had 3 feet on my street. There's probably 2 1/2 feet on it now. Mcgee talking about front end payloaders to clear the streets just like 78. One of the parking garages in downtown Providence had a drift almost to the top of it! This one by far is the closest to the 78. We've had plenty of big storms since then and anyone who lived through 78 all had the same thing to say until now. Big storm but doesn't compare to 78. Can't really say that anymore!

That was one of the most brutal beat downs ive ever witnessed. 3.8" under a ws warning. But dont worry it happened again on Mar 21st with 2". Good winter but some really bad busts in there

And people wonder why we get anxious when these systems show up. So many brutal busts this past decade.

Are you guys in SE Mass and E RI still alive? Jesus that radar has been crazy all day...

There has to be a 40" report by the time this is done...

It's unbelievable.  The wind has calmed a little in the last hour.  But the heavy snow hasn't let up since i woke up at 6.  Just constant heavy snow all day

Same....I alienate my family for days in the lead up to these things....up until 6AM doing a map that I just wiped my ass with, but that doesn't change how brutal it is to listen to/read....we've have both whined plenty already.....I suggest you do what I did and just remove yourself. I saw the writing the wall and passed out at 330 am and didn't look back. Let other people enjoy it.

Is it possible he is in some kind of local mini screw zone? I know he's a lot but he does seem really passionate about it. Too bad there wasn't someone down the street who could weigh in.

We may not see another blizzard of 78 in our lifetime.  It's like the hurricane of 1938 of winter storms.  The way that low tucked in and then closed off and stalled - yet all the other pieces fell into place in 1978 seems to have not come close to have been replicated since then.

Today if we see a low that close to us on the models, we're thinking where is the mixing line going to setup!

In 1978 because that storm track came inside the benchmark, there was indeed a mixing line at the time.

Lurking here, but according to NWS Boston, it sounds like Providence has bested the Blizzard of ‘78 with 32.8”! 16.5” coming in the last 6 hours!

I heard the same thing. 40 is not out of the question!
