7pm Snowfall Reports:

NWS NY: 2.5"
Newark, NJ: 2.0"
Islip, NY: 2.0"
Central Park, NY: 1.8"
JFK: 1.7"
LGA: 1.7"
Bridgeport, CT: 0.8"

I was out at 7 and thought we had about 1.5-1.75" OTG (but about 1" in the hour I was out), so they're on this so far.

storms like this make me appreciate the resiliency of the subway system. the fact that service is still up and running even as roads are becoming impassible is kind of incredible

I believe the mta full closure 1 am

That may only be lirr

Radar south of LI looks paltry now, but watch later as this initial band lifts north and weakens, should see returns bubbling and expanding again

Modeling has pretty consistently been having these batches of heavier precip followed by brief lulls for a while now

What time is that exactly ? The 07 stuff confuses me
That's Z time, for Zulu time, which is the same thing as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). It's the time system used in meteorology and in aviation. 00z in EST(EDT) is 7pm (8pm), 06z is 1am (2am), 12z is 7am (8am), and 18z is 1pm (2pm).

As of 7 pm, we have 4.0" of snow, so 1.5" last hour as it's been snowing close to heavily (not crazy heavy, but visibility maybe 3/8 of a mile. Temp still 31F. Just finished my first shoveling and it wasn't too bad - bottom snow layer was wet but snow falling now is somewhat drier, but still packs.

4 1/2 inches, here to your southeast.  Got into those 25 to 30 dBZ echoes a while ago. 31 F
