I don’t see why some areas around the city and LI don’t fall below 0 tonight. Temps are plummeting and it’s only 7pm.

You’d generally need a N or NNW wind. NYC doesn’t radiate very well.

We were spoiled with no wind for the last 2 weeks.. this is bitter

The coldest air at 850 is just about over us now.  With the wind persisting overnight and the coldest of the air overhead currently (at least from the city on westward) I would not be surprised to see temperatures bottom out around mid night and then hold steady or rise slightly before daybreak. CAV is just about peaking now.  Temperatures across NY southern tier (BGM area) are holding rather steady last few hours.   Maybe another 2-4 degree drop from the city west and another 3-5 across LI.

Yep, we probably make it to 5 or a couple degrees lower then steady. The strong wind allows the city to cool down and eliminate UHI but also keeps us from really radiating.

The cold is unbearable. I'm not somebody that shivers generally but this is legit shiver cold, the wind just makes it absolutely brutal.

without the cold air advection we would not be as cold as we are now..so the gusty winds is what made it this cold today..

For the first time since February 4, 2023, Bridgeport, Central Park, Islip, JFK Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Newark, and White Plains have all registered daily low temperatures below 10°.  Through 8 pm, the average low for the seven cities is 7.4°. On February 4, 2023, it was 2.9°.

Agreed. Low teens with no wind is actually invigorating to me.  What's going on out there right now though is as brutal as I can remember.

Even earlier today when it was 17 with wind felt worse than last weekend when it was 0

For those who are complaining about the cold try working on a barge or on the dock on the Hudson today. Today my men were on the dock for 45 min trying to tie up the barge and offload to it. Unfortunately with the strong winds and ice the vessel had trouble getting close enough to the dock. Eventually they were successful.

Oh man. It's one thing to be in this weather just to get in and out of the car.  It's another thing to be out working in it (or even,  to a much lesser extent, just waiting 15 minutes for a train.) Working by the water no less.  I can't even fathom it.

Winds gusting to 53mph here.  Windchill was -15 at ISP last hour.
