 I shoveled for the second time today just trying to keep up with it.. first time was 5 inches of snow..  this second time was 2 inches of snow and 2 inches of sleet. Seemed like it was a lot heavier and I could tell a lot more ice.   Wore my ass out!! Lol

Going above .40 really puts tree damage on the table. Freezing rain in the Valentine's storm from many years ago totally killed several beautiful evergreen trees I had,  believe I measured 14 inches of snow and then hours and hours of sleet and then freezing rain. Extreme branch damage occurred. Ugh. 

I feel bad your area is under the darker colors. However, upstream from you in my area we look to go to freezing rain but not as much.

I might just be completely wrong but I think I'm starting to mix with freezing rain? 90/10 sleet/zr? Maybe I'm tweaking?

The sleet has the consistency of sand. It's crazy. I shoveled the 5 inches of snow. Will get the sleet later. Steps and sidewalk covered with sleet. Temp up to 22F. Can see a dry spot coming from the SW on radar.

Thankfully, practically no snow stuck to trees with this storm. So the ice won’t have that to cling to and add extra weight.

Perhaps a weird transient shower/sprinkles thing.  You can see the actual drops where they froze.  On cars, and fence…maybe birds just pissed overhead….

My sister in California, MD says freezing rain there now and a glaze already developing.  Nearby temps are 26 at St. Mary's Airport and 28 at Pax River.  Not good with lots of precip to go!

I did my first sleet shovel. This stuff is no joke. So strange compared to snow. I’ll repeat the granulated sugar comparison but the grains are bigger. Tough to shovel as it is dense and hard to pile up somewhere convenient - it just slides down the pile and spreads out. Easily 2+ inches of it so far.

I keep checking the tree right outside the window. That's always the first/most obvious spot to see zr accretion.

RD-QVP from KLWX of the Storm so far. Very prominent warm nose. I'm not sure what the lower enhancement of the ZDR is. Snow Growth? If it is, our "flurries mixed in with the sleet" will be coming to an end shortly.

Sleet is so heavy, can't see across the water to rivera beach!! And the water isn't water, it's frozen all the way across!!  21F temp here in sparrows point MD

Baltimore also just got way more intense with the sleet. I really hope we can avoid too much freezing rain/drizzle. It would be extremely dangerous on top of all of this.

I think the SN accumulation is 7.5 with 1-2 inches IP and it’s just pouring sleet.
