I don't understand the idea of telling people who hate the cold to just move down South lol. Nobody likes the cold, some people may tolerate the cold better than others, but nobody likes it. For those that "like" the cold, how long are you sitting outside during the day? How many lawn games are you playing? How often are you sitting pool side? The extent of your outside activities is probably just walking to your car and then walking inside to wherever you're going, then back to your car, then back inside your house.

I love the cold. I walk 2-3 miles every day. And I enjoy working outside during the colder months. Sign me up 24/7/365 for snowshoveling when it is cold rather than mowing the lawn when it is 80+

Even if its like 10-15F outside and with wind? That's what I am referring to with regards to cold.

I’m outside in the cold quite a bit, but I have started to enjoy the warm season more and more.

There are also life things that play into that… winter life vs summer life.  But man, late sunsets when it’s 80 degrees and what feels like two hours of twilight from 7-9pm… that’s what I love.

Hate 84/68 at 1:30pm lol.

Anyway, looks like we’ll take the 15th event and turn it into a nice refresher up here.

Trying to fit in with the dew crowd eh? We need to slip the ULL a bit more east for here, But i'll be in Western Maine so it looks good there.

Agree with you that few folks like being cold, but being out in the cold (even the very cold) does not equal being cold. My friends and I who are out in the bitterest weather skiing, running, biking, and hiking surely tolerate more cold than some folks, but we're pretty comfy for the most part. There's a fair amount of truth to the adage that there is no bad weather, only bad clothing.

It's very helpful to be active when it's cold. It's not impossible to dress warmly for being sedentary outside, but it's much more challenging.

Heart of winter and we are pages into a debate on whether cold sucks or not, sign of the times…

No, Sign of this current time.

We were told before this year, and last, that the sustained cold, and the clippers were a thing of the past.  Obviously as we can see, they are not.  Unfortunately for us(in SNE)it wants to be dry now.   Sometimes that’s just how it goes.   NNE crushing it…but we can’t seem to line it up here for the most part so far.  Not much more to say.

Oh yes...I mean if you're outside being active and doing stuff that certainly helps. I mean before I started driving and I had to either take the bus everywhere or walk (used to walk 2+ miles to work and back when busses didn't operate) I would get warm...even if it was in the teens.

But nobody is going outside when its 15F out and going, "ahhh this is such a great day". Even those saying they like the cold or don't mind it...sit outside in a lawn chair for 3-4 hours (even if dressed like an eskimo) and tell me its enjoyable or tolerable or likable

Or as the somewhat urbane silviculture professor at U. Maine put it (in a rich southern accent), "There's no such thing as inclement weather, just improper clothing."

I'll admit to no longer going ice fishing when it's well below freezing.  Tending my homemade topwater traps becomes a serious chore.

In the 18 days since Christmas, we've had 6 snow events that provided a grand total of 7.8", with 2.3" the biggest "storm".  Looks like the parade of midgets will continue

this week.

That's a good description of my deer hunting in late November, though I sit on a stump or log and probably move at least once during that time.  :D

Summer activities are different from winter activities.  You dress for it, with good gear, you can do whatever winter activity it is that you enjoy doing.  Obviously the very far extremes on either end of the spectrum can be challenging, but those are the extreme examples.

Nobody goes and sits in a lawn chair in the winter…..period.   That is a summer activity Paul, not a winter one. So that’s apples and oranges.

Google Maine Snow drought...

How far into New Hampshire would you have to drive to find a location that is "crushing " it????

The lower amount of Precipitation doesn’t always equate to low snowfall. Vermont is doing fabulous with snow, and so is northwest and northern Maine.

That's what I'm mostly referring to though...is the more extreme side of the cold. If you're outside and even if its into the lower 20's and your dressed for it and active, you'll be able to tolerate it for sure. I've never skied but I can presume that if its in the teens or maybe even single digits, with all the equipment plus the body working...you'll build up a sweat.

It doesn't take all that much to build up a sweat while outside in the cold.

I’m not worried about NH’s drought. I’m talking about good snow, and snow cover.  Vermont is buried and so are those other locations that I said. I’m sure there are micro locations that may not be, but for the most part NNE is in great shape as far as winter/and snow goes.  And they look to be adding to their snow over the next week as well.
