Very fine pixie dust coming down, just enough for black ice on many rural roads. Started around 11:30, have a compacted half inch or so. Should be picking up here soon.

Snow looks like it's going to end early here at least. This definitely was an underperformer for me. Was supposed to get 8-12in. Idk if I will even hit that range. Snow quality was a killer early on then all this good banding really hammered I72 south of me. Looking at radar the system seems to be moving very fast.

Lake enhancement showing up all along the WI shoreline.

It might work in a negative way though, with surface temps running a bit higher and snowfall ratios likely a bit lower as well.

In Mequon and it's mod-heavy snow with decent sized dendrites. Definitely getting heavier and windier.

7 inches on the nose here as of about 1:45.  Flake size has increased with these little enhanced blobs moving overhead from time to time.

As of 1 pm CST, Chicago (3.2") and Rockford (3.2") had set new daily snowfall records for November 29. Chicago's old mark of 3.0" was set in 1942. Rockford's old record of 3.0" was set in 1925. Upstream, parts of Iowa had seen 12" of snow.

Snow going to be ending within next hr or so here. Hours ahead of schedule. Idt I been so disappointed in a storm in a long time. Especially when all the models and nws were forecasting big totals. Congrats to all that scored big.

Looks to be a little hole of no precip a bit SW of Aurora (around 3 PMish) heading my way so I'm going to clean the driveway. Hope that fills in a bit. Few more inches would make this a great storm.

Probably 9" or so with the best rates of the event underway. Think 12" is probably gonna be optimistic but we should beat 10"

A pocket of yellow just popped over CR, which should help get me to 10".  Large flakes are dumping.

A ton of convection across Central Illinois the past couple of hours, with a lot of lightning and TSSN. There have been several associated pockets of subsidence out and about across the area, one of which has been hanging on around here for a while now.

Sitting 5.6" here at home thus far, and sniffing an under-performer.
