Yeah I'd be alright with this weather for the next 6 weeks, with the occasional rain chance so we don't dry out.

Another chilly a.m. with Duluth 40 (t3rd), Hibbing 36 (4th), I-Falls 39 (t6th). Significantly cool air mass for this time of year to be sure. Scattered shwrs/stms cast for tomorrow, so hope to get under some of that. Other than that, pretty seasonable wx overall to end the month after the front blows thru as avg temps start their Fall slide. Upper 60's-low 70's with upper 40's-low 50's. Inland areas may get a little cooler with radiational cooling. A very nice Labor Day weekend on tap. Looks like my Holiday forecast will be pretty good.

Had a heavy lake-effect rain shower move through late this morning. Was hoping for one rumble to make it a rare lake-effect thunderstorm but no such luck.

The low at DTW was 50F this morning, though it hovered there for 3 hours, missing the record by 3F. The usual SE MI cold spots included Ann Arbor at 40F, and White Lake at 42F. Impressive for August! The coldest in northern lower MI was 37F.

Tonights forecast low for Detroit is 49F, the record is 47F.

Down to 43 here this morning.

Weather has been great, but our 1.27" for August is not enough rain.  Glad we had over 7" in July otherwise it'd really be fried out there.

speaking of KARB (and notwithstanding missing a previous discussion about this) isn't that always an abnormally cold spot because its in a valley?

Yeah its like a bowl where it is, very misleading for temps in the area but true to its location.

50 again last night for a low here. I see that Grayling was 33 last hour up north, pretty wild for this time of year.

I saw some personal weather stations near Grayling in the upper 20's.  Definitely cold for this time of the year.

In 2025, one can just make something up, post it on social media, and others will believe it. Obviously, the Carr Fork Lake number is erroneous, and the 2012 occurrence at Greenup looks to be an error as well. In 1986 and 1946, clearly a number of stations observed lows in the 30s in Kentucky. In August 1986, nearly 1/4 of all NWS stations in the State had a low in the 30s.  And this is just official cooperative stations, not backyard thermometers or mesonets or whereever that is sourced from. Kentucky's highest point is 4,145 feet. Those elevated valleys in the east can radiate well.

You will not get an argument from me that one can post anything now a days and data can be skewed to support multiple sides of a debate. Although, it would be hard to argue it has been an unusually pleasant week in many midwest locales for the last week of August. Remove the jargon listed above and think of how many people recall sweltering as the kids headed back to school and how refreshing this is as a contrast. And it does appear Lexington, KY did set a record for chill:

As of 5:15 AM, Blue Grass Field in Lexington has hit a low of 46 degrees (it may go colder!). This breaks the daily record of 49 from 1968.

It is the lowest August temperature in Lexington since August 29th, 1986. #kywx

I woke up to 66 in the house. I considered turning on the heat but I just can't bring myself to do it in August.

It was 29F in Rosscommon today. An incredible 38F at the aforementioned cold spot Ann Arbor (which is ARB, not to be confused with U of M).

DTW's 50 missed the record by 3F, FNT's 43F missed the record by 1F.

Absolutely, anything can be skewed whichever way someone wants it these days.

Also, multiple record lows were set the last few days, some very old records. Springfield, IL set a record low of 44F, breaking a 140-year record by 4F. Flint missed by 1F, Detroit missed by 3F, but Toledo set a record low this morning of 48F. We just arent having someone post an itemized list as they do when theres any kind of record highs.
