Wild scenes on News 12 this morning. In Stony Brook a road looks to have been washed away/collapsed. If lucky about anything at least it wasn’t when a lot of people were on these roads.

Heaviest rainfall event in Suffolk since August 2014. Radar estimates over 10.00” with actual measurements over 8.00” and 9.00”. Looking like more significant damage to roads and residences than 2014 due to the hilly terrain on the North Shore.

Yep this was definitely an Ida-like event. Looks like lots of flooded businesses too.

My total from yesterday was 3.04” with a two day event total of 3.24”

The event total at my station at Cherry Grove is 0.66” since yesterday morning.  Very minor as compared to the epic totals on the north shore.

72/70 cloudy.  Another humid day, shower/storms and warm mid 80s.  Tue - Thu cooler (coolest since late May/early June).    Ridge building east by the end of the week and this weekend.  SOme onshore / weakness off the NE will keep brunt of the heat west again with strong (potential record) heat going north and staying wets of the region.   Flow does come around and should get some to late season heatwave especially west of the city.  Overall looking warmer to close the month.

2.88" last 24 hours and two day total of 3.01".  About 2" of that 2.88" fell in about 45 min. last evening between roughly 5:00 and 5:45.  Off and on heavy showers well into the evening.  Got off easy around here.  Got more than enough rain to soak things but not enough to cause issues.  Enough is as good as a feast.

Seems we are seeing much more of these Flood Emergency type events in recent years.  Never remember so many.   Seems at least one a year in this sub forum area over the last few years.  Several this year alone.  Guess it is the new normal in the warmer more moisture laden era we are in.  Hope nothing tropical to cap it off over the next several weeks.  Not taking bets on that though.

I was happy to get almost an inch and a half here. A very nice soaking but missed the really big amounts that cause flooding. I thought it was important to get a good soaking since we're looking at a very long dry period after today.

Storms later today look widely scattered. Nothing like yesterday but a few areas will get downpours. Then onto the long beautiful dry stretch. Looking forward to the refreshing weather the next few days. Dew points will drop to the high 40s.

8.21" here over night.  8.54" total if you include Saturday night's rain.

For comparison, we had 5.53" during the August 2014 deluge and 4.20" during Ida.

I was hoping for .75 or so.  That one cluster just missed to my east (and for the most part your west) where Somerville and Raritan got several inches and flash floods.

Many pictures out on social media of the tremendous damage that occurred there.  Apparently a levee failed in Stony Brook that contained a pond resulting in the entire contents being washed out to LI Sound.

I just made the mistake of taking a “short” walk before I got on my train because I got to the station early. It is disgusting out, and I’m a sweaty mess. Can’t wait for this cooler weather tonight/tomorrow, at least for a couple of days.

One good thing about Long Island is the lack of any major rivers and fresh water flood zones. All things considered Suffolk handled 8-10” of rain without any major issues. Yes, some washed out roads but not crazy issues like when CT or Vt get 10” of rain.
