It's literally the hottest summer on record at Newark and New York City.

Like I said, people "feel" it's cooler because they are so acclimated to the heat. I told the Harrisburg crew they should be comparing their summertime temperatures to Richmond, Virginia. It's one of the hottest summers on record at Harrisburg, but compared to historical, 20th century summers in Richmond, it's still a very hot summer just not among the record hottest. I think the New York City crew should do the same. 2024 is among the hottest on record at NYC and EWR, but if you compare NYC to 20th century Richmond and EWR to 20th century RDU then it's still well above the typical summer in those locations during that era, but not among the hottest on record. The DC crew can use Tallahassee or Savannah, Georgia.

Can't wait for someone to "ackshually" me. The 1966 reading is bogus - the park was 1.2F warmer than the EWR tarmac? GTFO. Yes, it's cooler than 2010, but not by a margin that anyone can discern. And, of course, the 1994 readings are absolute garbage measured by garbage equipment that are not comparable to readings taken before or after that era.

I see GFS on the 12z run now is giving us very little rain for late week. Not that I buy that. It does appear that most of the rain is going to miss us to the west on Wednesday, but there should be plenty of heavy downpours around Thursday and Friday. Especially Friday ... that looks like our best chance.

It has rain Saturday but splits the area with the heaviest amounts

Nam and euro have very little thru Thursday. Cmc still very wet

So it's the hottest summer on record, even though it's only July 8th?  Get back to me in two months.

It's a hot start to summer, but let the rest play out.

Yep, pushes too far west and we will be left on the drier side.  Latest WPC still rather wet from city west into NJ.  Central L.I. on eastward not so much.  Will need another day or two to see how this plays out.  Seems overall though the guidance has been trending to push the wettest area to the left.  Not rooting for flooding rains but I'd just like an inch or so between now and Friday night to keep things watered.  I should be able to get it out this way.

I'll be heading outside to water the garden shortly. I didn't even get a half inch of rain last week, so it has become dry here again.

It looks likely that the rain is gonna miss me to the west on Wednesday, although you might have a better shot at seeing something there in NW Jersey. If some of the latest models are correct, a lot of the area might have to wait until late Friday for a better chance. Looks as if I might have to do a lot of watering this week since we might not see much until the end of the week. With the very high humidity, I'm hopeful that we'll see some downpours that give us the 1 to 2 inches that we want to give everything a nice watering at the end of the week.
