I am in Pasadena and this was laughable... More like 8 mph winds and .008 precip.

Dude, I was literally in the one spot maybe 2 mi in  diameter in Rockville that got 10 mph winds and 0.1 precip while the rest of the county got smoked. If I was home, I would've been front row center. I hate this timeline.

Sigh

Broadcast media reports "numerous trees and branches blew down around Dupont Circle, including several on to people"

Yeah. during any thunderstorm I experienced as a child or teen growing up in northcentral PA, I was raised by my (arguably) overreactive parents to:

  • Stay away from the windows!
  • Turn off anything plugged into a wall!
  • Don't run any water faucets, and SURE AS HELL don't take a shower!
  • HIDE UNDER THE BED!!!  :)

Having said all that...somewhat tongue in cheek...I will observe that most folks under the age of 35 have zero respect for the potential damage (or death) that severe weather can inflict, and honestly, some are simply not smart (or respectful) enough to GTFO of, oh, say, potential 60-80 mph straight line winds or extra-heavy lightning. I mean...c'mon. Much of this shit is common sense. If you're electing to stay out in the open in Dupont Circle, during a storm like THIS....you're just f*cking asking for it.

Agreed, he says having filmed the storm on his (covered!) balcony. Video makes it look like the DuPont folks were huddling right outside the metro station canopy. one wonders why they didn’t just go down the escalator.
