Yup. But even CON doesn't have many. I think they did have a -24F in 09 though.

When did the airport site become the primary obs site? I'm checking out the threaded extremes site and it looks like a ton of their -20 readings were measured with snow up to thy knickers and then even into the 1940s with an abrupt dropoff in the 1950s.

1994 was epic though. That really stands out for anything post-1940s. Multiple readings.

What about a spot like Plymouth, NH?

They do it more frequently in the valley?

Can't find Plymouth on nowdata. North Conway COOP has none since 2006 and CON has 2. Tamworth has at least 6. Franklin Falls Dam near me is in the river valley and they've had 4.

So the -37F was at the airport as well as the -33F in 1984.

We just haven't had that perfect arctic high in place where we pull off a sunny high of 5F with light winds and deep snowcover where CON can just drop off from 4pm onward. The city has built up a bit too, but if they could pull -33F in 1984 I'm sure they could still do it now.

Wow. Yeah so the 1940s were there. Seems like it is quirky there with high pressure location.

Well, maybe we are returning to 1980s winters given how this year has gone. Might as well make a run at -30.

The 1984 cold shot is always fascinating to me since it really wasn't that cold in the midlevels relatively speaking. That one set the state record in MA. I'm a bit skeptical of the reading but regardless, it was damned cold.

-40F in Chester, correct?      Although some sources I see online have it as -35F

They also have the state record for highest at 107F

Is there a long time weenie there?

MWN went into that night with this...

When we can radiate near max efficiency while MWN is unsaturated, I find the valleys can drop down near that MWN dewpoint.

Here's the CON hourlies...dropped like a rock

I seem to recall that there was some investigation into that at the time and that the observer was caught reporting bogus numbers.  I think they went so far as to setup a thermograph nearby.  I don't remember all the details.

I'm a mail carrier. It's a great decision. Alas, I'm the only one in my office that has to work today...because they still want collections done. Going to be not fun.

I did not know that's what you did, glad you did not have to work. No USPS for the entire state of Michigan til Friday.

-21F at MSP at noon CST. I haven't gotten below -17F here in 13 years.

With my microclimate it's hard to empathize with these Temps; they seem pretty ordinary lol. We've been in the -30s multiple times in just the few years I've lived here. Of course that's radiational driven so a different beast.

Yeah this is real cold. I've been in near -30F with calm winds and it's tolerable. -25F with 20-30mph winds is another level.

Yes.  I have seen -30F in the NE Kingdom and we were drinking beers and doing snowmobile things...but it was calm.   Add strong winds and it gets ridiculous.

I have had -18F and -19F at my house.  My wife saw -19F in her car last winter

I average between 55-60" so I suppose 24" on Jan 31st isn't quite ratter but it's been a very meh' winter.

It has been a shitty winter. Great November.  Otherwise it has ratted big time.   Today was great, but between the lack of snow and the cutters this has been the biggest rat in a while
