AppsRunner
11.5" will be the final total for LAF this January. I consider myself lucky. Next up February. If it hadn't been for yesterday you would have doubled me... with TOL's official observations at 5.9" yesterday plus another .7 or .8 yesterday and earlier today

andyhb
Ever since the tornado siren drill on Friday...can't wait for this winter to be over. If the pattern flips at the wrong time, we could get screwed for svr wx as well...
on_wx
If the pattern flips at the wrong time, we could get screwed for svr wx as well... Nothing new here. An adjacent city that has been a hotbed for large and extremely dangerous tornadoes in the past installed tornado sirens some 10 years ago that have never been used. IWXwx
I'm going to end up with 13.7" for the month. FWA will be at 14.5", which is + 5.1" for January. EDIT: The wife saw my avatar and thought it was obscene. Guess I need to change it. It's a guy eating a hot dog. Oh well.

hawkeye_wx
After dipping to 18 just before midnight, we're already back up near freezing. Low 50s look likely later today. Same here, temp fell pretty quickly last evening, but rose all night. Our 850 mb temp has soared from -3C last evening to +10C this morning. Des Moines is already in the 40s this morning so 60 looks very possible over there. How warm Cedar Rapids gets is a bit of an unknown because we're just inside the snowcover area. The forecast is for upper 40s, but the latest Euro has bumped us to mid 50s. Regardless of the exact temp, our 5 inches of snow should disappear fast this afternoon. turtlehurricane
Up to 31 °F as of 10 am. Still got clouds though unfortunately, otherwise we'd be melting away. It'll get above freezing everyday this week, I'm hoping to get the car out of the parking lot but wouldn't be surprised if a layer of ice remains out there. wisconsinwx
Over 14" of snow here (right around our January average), but it doesn't really feel like it. We had one or two decent storms and basically nothing else. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be at the start of the month, though.
Geos
With a low of 14° before 1am, temperatures have climbed 26°. Didn't get above freezing until 10am or so. Clouds have dominated the skies this morning.
Trent
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/view/prodsByState.php?state=OH&prodtype=climate#CF6CLE The F6 says it all. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it ... a near normal snowfall that came in nickels and melted dimes. Also note the string of precipitation days, it never ends. hawkeye_wx
Just like with every other torch day this winter, all local mets and nws forecasts for today were not warm enough. Here in CR we are in the mid 50s despite the snow cover. Our snow is actually melting fairly slowly, despite the torch, because it is loaded with water. Des Moines is now in the mid 60s for the second time this month.
