  1. Past hour
  2. 0.96" overnight, more than i expected. Heavy showers moving in, just heard a rumble of thunder
  3. There is still a weaker component to the northern semicircle of the overall vortex, but compared to even three hours ago, this is a very significant improvement in core presentation.
  4. I think part of what saved February in 1983 was Nino 1+2 didn’t peak until the summer and wasn’t as extreme as 1997-1998 was during the winter.
  5. He looked upon what he did and it was indeed very good
  6. I think that being open-minded about this is the best approach at this time. I initially assumed that CC was the main cause of this. Now, after reading about the bedrock collapse theory put out by a reputable publication (per my checking into it this morning), that’s giving me some doubt about my first thoughts. I just posted this elsewhere: “I’ve also been reading about the theory about the main cause of this being bedrock failure with the glacier collapsing mainly because of that. Whereas CC could easily still have played some role, there are currently more doubts in my mind than earlier as regards whether it played a large role based on what I’ve been reading today. In summary, much more time is likely needed to attempt to figure out the actually cause(s) of this complex disaster. That’s the safest approach to take now. Even if CC didn’t play much of a role in this, that in itself doesn’t minimize the effect of it on melting ice in general due to GW.”
  7. PHL mean temperature August 2026: 79.2 (tied 8th warmest) Summer 2026 (JJA): 78.8 (tied 3rd warmest with 2016, only behind 2010 and 2022)
  8. I agree let’s get a few LBSW bands that never make it out of CT. Blizzard of 2016 repeat with another strong El Niño?
  9. Starting to see some barbs approaching hurricane force. Obviously these are at height but this is probably a 50-55 kt system based on radar data alone
  10. It sounds like it will be a process - but lack of budget/funding and retiring faculty. It's very unfortunate!
  11. I live about 27 miles northwest of Charlottesville as the crow flies. Therefore, I am conscious of weather occurrences in Charlottesville more than D.C.. Charlottesville has been blasted with a highly unusual repetition of strong to severe storms during the past 60 days. This is within a rectangular area that encompasses much of Nelson and Albemarle counties that has repeatedly been hammered with hail, high winds and heavy rain.. The Charlottesville-Albemarle airport about 9 miles north of town has had the wettest August of the past 65 years with 10.13" of rain. This compares to a normal 3.73" for August. This began during July when 5.99" fell at the airport. During August, west of the Blue Ridge has been dry with serious drought. I would enjoy sharing the rain but am very happy to escape the severe storms!!
  12. That's terrible news. St. Louis University has turned out some incredible meteorologists and climatologists.
  13. 1983 was also very east-based, and to be frank, it's a better polar analog given the QBO and solar cycle. 2016 was actually much warmer given the MC influence, it just happened to have the one storm.
  14. Three-point shooting weather to start Met Fall?

  17. Thanks for reminding me we have another 3 full weeks of summer
  18. 3.3mb per image is kinda high for just a weather map image.
  19. Then it's a very tough winter. However inland did better that the coast. NYC had to wait till late March to get snow.
  20. The east based Nino is completely overpowering any other signal this year. It will be a lot closer to 97 than 83 or 2016
  21. Yep, was looking forward to one more. Radar has RAPIDLY improved on north side too. Me thinks RI might be occurring. Crazy cool processes to watch on radar. For the talk earlier of no defined core, IR and radar both show it quickly blossoming. Lightning in southern quad is a definitive sign of strengthening too. Lets see how quickly it ramps up
