    The Cedar Rapids area was the bulls-eye this morning. 2-3" of rain fell across the city. Up to 4" fell just east of the city. It was just pure heavy rain with no thunder. I love mornings like this. A few spots could get another 1-2" later today and tonight. July has been dry, but today's rain doubled my monthly total and we are now above avg.

    97-98 wasnt the disaster here that it was on the east coast, but it was one of the last strong Ninos Id pick, only '82-83 was worse. Interesting about '97-98 is that it was front-loaded and Feb was a shutout. mid Nov to mid Dec was actually decent. So was the 2nd half of Jan. Everything else sucked. Shittiest strong Ninos locally: 1982-83, 1997-98, 2023-24 Best strong Ninos locally: 1877-78, 1972-73, 2015-16 At Detroit, the least snowy strong Nino is 1982-83 with 20.0" and the snowiest 45.0" in 1972-73.

    Darwin’s pressure has averaged 1015+ mb, a high pressure for there, for 22 straight days! That’s a new record (back to 1991) that breaks the old record of 20 days that was set during another developing super Nino, July of 2015. I’m expecting that streak to finally end tomorrow.

    Day two risk is out for 5-15% damaging wind and 2% tornado that is a hair thin but there in TN .

    My sister was born July 18, 1991. I was 8 years old and I remember how brutally hot and humid it was. My mom always talks about how it was so hot when she was born.

    The 23/24 Nino was supposed to be very favorable for snows but it ended up being one the warmest/least snowiest. ENSO is still just one factor

    One way or another I’m going to witness a hurricane in person. Once I retire I’m definitely taking a quick trip to FL or the Carolina’s. But shhhh! Don’t tell my wife because she doesn’t know this yet!

    So you're saying CC's effect are somehow limited to the EU, and do not include Russia? Sorry - that's still cherry picking data. The more data you include, the better picture you get. Stop excluding data that doesn't fit your narrative. (Also Nature isn't exactly an unbiased reliable source. Also - "is expected to"? Since CC is already here - if it results in wildfire growth - shouldn't this already be happening? Why would this need to be a prediction, rather than an observation?)

    The shear over the Caribbean is nuts so nothing gonna come through there. I'd watch 20-30N and west of 50-55W for anything to get going beyond 10 days. Big plume of dust coming across over the next week or so. Climo ramping up as we move through August so will be interesting to see what can get going with developing and already strong El-Nino.

    Enjoy the sunshine today clouds look to build back Saturday afternoon and linger throughout much of the Sun - Wed period with next rain from southerly flow and cut off low to our west Mon-Tue. Hot/Humid beyond there.
