It's September 2. Let's not make bold predictions this early into September.

Pesky omega block. Those things do not let up unless they are torn apart somehow. Delayed start to fall for those of us to our south and west. We appear to be on the fringe of it and thus will be only slightly AN.

That was one of the more spectacular forcasting fails in a while.  Decided to go kayaking on the Nissy with a friend.  Checked the radar and bailed after 40 minutes.  Now I'm stuck drinking beer and eating pub food while I watch the torrent running down Main Street.  Oh, the humanity!

Maybe in their subforum they would care?

Well it affects us too. Can't have nice crisp fall weather with a death ridge planted just to our southwest. All it would take is the ridge to move east just a tiny bit and we'd also torch.

Crisp fall days happen usually in late September, early October. It can get hot in September, it's still Summer. Some days in the 80's and low 90's are typical early in the month

What's your all-time warmest month? Is July 1999 holding on like me or is it another month?

September is typically the best overall weather month around here with May as a close second. But after about October 10th things go downhill fast. Worst part is losing daylight at a rapid pace. The good news if you hate Winter like me, is that the period of really cold weather and darkness is only about 8 weeks long.

Yep and beaches (if that's your thing) are quiet with back to school.   Other than the rapidly shortening days it's a great month of decent weather.

You should have said that then. Or it moves west a little and we are nicer? Keep us updated!

Tomorrow and Friday will see temperatures top out mainly in the lower 80s. Showers and thundershowers are possible.

Excessive heat with highs in the middle and upper 90s will be just south of the region in such cities as Baltimore and Washington tomorrow and Friday.

A cooler air mass will move into the region for the Labor Day weekend. In its wake, temperatures will generally peak in the middle and upper 70s.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +4.2°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +2.6°C for the week centered around August 26. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +3.93°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +2.50°C. The ongoing strong El Niño, which has reached super El Niño threshold, will continue to strengthen through the summer.

The SOI was -10.63 today.

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was +0.219 today.

We are locked in with fog here and have been for hours in the Poconos. Edit- we just had a brief shower, no thunder thank goodness.

I still haven't been able to figure out my exact elevation Google Gemini gave me some ridiculous numbers, 1666 feet at the front of my property (facing the lake) and 1692 feet at the back of my property (facing an open field). And something about that open field behind my property rising to 1740 feet haha. I think I will stick with the average of my apps and the barometer altimeter conversion process that says it's between 1530 and 1580 feet.

Those numbers from Gemini might not be any more accurate than those inflated temperatures on weather underground we talked about before. I dont think anyone does it intentionally, I just think the properties there are too close to each other for proper siting and like you said no one wants to climb a roof to plant an Anemometer lol. And many of these weather units are all in one which makes it even more difficult.  A wind instrument needs to be at 33 feet while the thermo hydro sensor belongs at 6 feet while the rain gage needs to be on a flat surface twice the distance away from the height of any near by trees, roofs, etc. I think I finally got the thermo hydro part right as my temperature measurements are within 1 to 2 degrees of MPO on all my sensors placing them on the North side of my house under the eave of a deck. The rainfall and wind measurements are off though. I would need to put the Anemometer on my balcony but I can't because the entire unit would have to go there and that area is very sun exposed so the temperature would be inflated. I see these modern units have offsets you can input to account for that but I don't find that to be scientific (the offset would need to be different for different times of the year as the sun angle and sun path in the sky changes) and I'd worry about intense heat damaging the equipment anyway, I remember in May there was one day it hit 118 degrees on my balcony when the actual outside temperature was more like 91 lol.

Have you tried this app? Seems pretty accurate to me and it's free. My buddy lives a little north of Canadensis just over the Pike County line. He's at 1836 feet. Amazing difference in weather at that elevation. He's often in the clouds when the deck is low and always a good 4-6 degrees cooler than at the bottom of the hill.

This is exactly why we will never break the records from years like 1936, 1953 and 1966. Mark my words Chris it will NEVER happen. We will have plenty of very hot summers, I fully expect next summer to be like 1983 and 2010, and get to the 100-102 range maybe three or more times, but the high end heat of 1936 (106 at Central Park) 1953 (102 in September, a mega heat wave of 2 weeks length), 1966 (107 at LGA, 104 at JFK) that will never happen again, at least not in our lifetimes. Obviously other regions will break their all time records because climate change means different things to different parts of the world and in different times of the year. Our springs haven't become hotter either. 1991 a pre el nino year had a spring much hotter than this year and the summer was hotter too.

July 22, 2011 had high end heat. A lot of records that day, including EWR's all-time high of 108.
