Pesky omega block. Those things do not let up unless they are torn apart somehow. Delayed start to fall for those of us to our south and west. We appear to be on the fringe of it and thus will be only slightly AN.

That was one of the more spectacular forcasting fails in a while.  Decided to go kayaking on the Nissy with a friend.  Checked the radar and bailed after 40 minutes.  Now I'm stuck drinking beer and eating pub food while I watch the torrent running down Main Street.  Oh, the humanity!

Well it affects us too. Can't have nice crisp fall weather with a death ridge planted just to our southwest. All it would take is the ridge to move east just a tiny bit and we'd also torch.

Some final Aug/summer stats for my station... Aug finished with a +1.4° departure which makes it the 12th warmest in 50 years, along with 6.74" of rain. Summer was 10th warmest along with 14.55" of rain.

Crisp fall days happen usually in late September,early October.It can get hot in September, it's still Summer.Some days in the 80's and low 90's are typical early in the month

The average temperature was 75.9 degrees which is 2.2 degrees above the 54 year average. The highest temperature was 95 degrees set on the 7th, the lowest temperature was 60 degrees set on the 29th. Precipitation totaled 7.02″ which war the 8th wettest since my records began.

CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR THE SUMMER MONTHS OF 2026

The average temperature was 75.4 degrees which was 2.4 degree above normal and was the 9th warmest summer. Precipitation totaled 19.31″ and was the 6th wettest since my records began.

September is typically the best overall weather month around here with May as a close second. But after about October 10th things go downhill fast. Worst part is losing daylight at a rapid pace. The good news if you hate Winter like me, is that the period of really cold weather and darkness is only about 8 weeks long.

Yep and beaches (if that's your thing) are quiet with back to school.   Other than the rapidly shortening days it's a great month of decent weather.

Mine is 2020 at 80.8 degrees,  1999 was 77.9 here

Tomorrow and Friday will see temperatures top out mainly in the lower 80s. Showers and thundershowers are possible. 

Excessive heat with highs in the middle and upper 90s will be just south of the region in such cities as Baltimore and Washington tomorrow and Friday.

A cooler air mass will move into the region for the Labor Day weekend. In its wake, temperatures will generally peak in the middle and upper 70s. 

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +4.2°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +2.6°C for the week centered around August 26. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +3.93°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +2.50°C. The ongoing strong El Niño, which has reached super El Niño threshold, will continue to strengthen through the summer.

The SOI was -10.63 today.

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was +0.219 today.
