I was thinking the rad pits could have one last hurrah below 0F early next week. Cold high cresting over deep snow pack....that'll plummet regardless of when in the season it is occurring.

i am heading up to Pittsburg for some snowmobiling next week. wunderground has them at -13 Sunday night, and -6 Monday night. i won't be out on the sled in those temps, screw that.

I feel like we’ve said this like 2-3x in the last 15 years. “This will never be topped” and then it is, and not to far in the future.

Not to get into wolfie favorite debate, but I think we’re seeing the extremes of CC play out kind of in real time. We’ve had some absolutely barren seasons recently, and then an all time blizzard.

Youre getting the lowest of the lows and highest of highs basically.

Well, tell CC I'm about due for my reach around.

Yeah from a 30,000’ view point 78 is king. But for PVD to EWB region, the snowfall and snow rates probably won’t ever be topped. I don’t think people realize how hard it snowed there.

Seriously, this was a little more akin to some of our extreme rainfall events lately. PVD took their 24 hour snowfall record and nearly doubled it. Like 2"/hr for 18 hours.

What are the odds that PVD holds the record for all first order New England stations regarding snowfall lol. Seriously.

Interesting my father always talked about the storm and the amounts but it didn’t seem that impressive on these maps

My Grandfather was Director of H.E.L.Co. Simsbury facility (Hartford electric light company... before Neversource) and they had several measurements taken from different areas around the valley that blow away the official units. I was living in Granby CT at the time, we had approximately 26 inches. It for sure WAS hard to measure... but no where near the 17 or so I see at times. I feel like some just gave up with the winds

Weather weenies trying to reassure me that 37.9" is actually too big, and PWM's 31.9" is perfect.

COME ON MAN! You call yourself a sledder!? :D JK but seriously, I've been out at 45 degrees below in central Canada... THAT was chilly, but we were dressed for it. We ended up coming in late for dinner to our hotel that night because of a problem Arctic Crap sled. We would sled from hotel to hotel for 6 nights, it was awesome!

Yup. That’s more water vapor into the atmosphere in a nutshell…

Tradeoff I am willing to make TBH...give me a decade of shit winters if we get an event like that.

As I get older I'm all about anomalies. As stupid as this sounds, it's a bit deflating to miss it by 10-15 miles. That is the shit we live for. Not 1-3" refreshers over crust.

Need that high to back off the end of next week for any big warmth. Gonna be hard to scour out if becomes entrenched. 12z gfs nearly kills the entire window with CAD for eastern areas. Euro AI has been doing it too at times.

There were two periods to this warm up...

The first being a contentious argument between winter and spring that begins really Sunday and lasts trough the 9th or so.

The second being an implied if not explicit very warm couple of three days between the 10th and the Ides...

This 12z GFS is attempting to discontinue the latter of the two as a brand new reconstruction of the continental synopsis by the 10th.

Absolutely not. One 25-35” storm surrounded by torches and sunshine would be hell on earth. You’re assuming you’d get hit and that’s always far from a guarantee.

If I got 3' fuck it. Torch the rest of winter for all I care. I'll sit back and smoke a cigar and call it a season.

well....maybe not a decade, hopefully only a couple ratters, then roll out a handful of events that just want to one up each other....

Yeah I can see a reload near mid-month...mentioned this yesterday. PV starts to get pressed down into Hudson Bay on ensembles....if that verifies, that's a LOT of cold not far away, so we'd prob have an additional threat or two if that's where it starts to settle.

Hope I’m wrong. The upcoming pattern on some of these runs reminds me of March 2010/2012 but I’m ready for one more good run afterwards.

Yeah that aint happening again there in our lifetimes. Sure, there will be more 30-burgers here and there for C/E MA....those do happen occasionally. But 40 burgers for Fall River and PVD do not.

I've been in North ORH County for 14 years and I've already had (3) 30" events that I can think of off the top of my head, or at least very close to 30".  A 40" will never happen though, too up and in.

That sounds like a miserable decade.

We all love the huge events but we also have been on here long enough to know that winter is long and sucks when nothing happens.  A lot of useless model watching.

Its sort of like the sports debate of trading a championship run for a decade of last place finishes… that one season is the pinnacle of fun, but man the rest of the years are a lot of meaningless games.

No offense but anyone saying they’ll trade one 3’ storm or one monster winter for a decade of ratters is lying to themselves.

From my experience that feeling of triumph only lasts the rest of the season at the most.

That is true too because lord knows I've bitched about that.

I just love the rush of anomalous events. I feel like at my age I've seen a lot of shit weather wise. So anything anomalous for me gets special treatment.

Yeah I’m not going to give up 10 years for one blissful 36-48 hour period.

We all crave deep winter. It’s what brings most of us here.

The irony too is that for the area south of PVD..that was the screw spot in March 2013. Literally exorcised the demons with this storm.

For Neonpeon in Newport....I know he mentions getting porked there a lot, but Jan 2022 and this past Monday definitely redeemed there.
