In 1978 because that storm track came inside the benchmark, there was indeed a mixing line at the time.

Yes and it made it that much more of a big deal to end up with so much. Some locations started with light rain or drizzle, if I remember the lore correctly.

Depth wise officially yes but as far as coverage in a larger area and drift wise no. The winds created much higher drifts in 78. Maybe because it started with wet snow in this one that held the drifts back some. I'm 65 and could not believe the mountains of drifts as high as 20 feet. Downtown Providence started dumping the snow in the river. They stopped because it started damming up at the bridges and almost overflowed the river. I would give this a close 90% to the 78. Here I had 3 feet on my street. There's probably 2 1/2 feet on it now. Mcgee talking about f say '78ront end payloaders to clear the streets just like 78. One of the parking garages in downtown Providence had a drift almost to the top of it! This one by far is the closest to the 78. We've had plenty of big storms since then and anyone who lived through 78 all had the same thing to say until now. Big storm but doesn't compare to 78. Can't really say that anymore!

Well, actually to an extent people in the northern part of Rhode Island can still say that about '78 being still the big one. The central and southern part is more local in this storm, but they do have some bagging rights now with this particular storm.

How am I supposed to enjoy 6-12 everywhere when people next to me have 24?  After Missing the SWFE and getting screwed in every other storm this winter and NOT seeing 20” since 2015?

What am I SUPPOSED to do Ray.  Smile?  This is my enjoyment in life.  Not Drugs.  Not Drinking.  IT’S Big Snowstorms.

There’s no way you’re in Cumberland RI but only got 6-12”

Just did round one of snowblowing. Have to keep turning the chute to stop the wind from blasting it back into my face.    This stuff is like cake flour.  Really pulverized.
I really can’t get a good handle on measurements.  I’ll stick with the 12” but that could be totally off

Oh, you did pretty good then.
I was under the impression you were under double digits.

I actually can't myself. I know GYX has internal documents we keep of the top 10 lists, I know BOX has similar. But that's what I mean about them not being digitized. Without asking BOX directly, you can't really search on your own.

Thanks. Depressing, but thanks. Weird they wouldn't just put that data into the Local Climatological Data.

I think postmortem snow reports will reveal that there were a lot of have nots.

What the south east coast is getting is surreal.

My only real disappointment is that I did invest/waste a lot of time Saturday night and yesterday tracking. I should’ve known better Saturday night when the mesos really cut back RT 2 corridor.

Maybe I should’ve chased to Falmouth, but I don’t think their totals are gonna be obscene and I’d be sitting down there without power right now.

Earlier it looked like the cape and islands were getting boned

just did mine, had to wear ski goggles so I could see through the snow blowing back at me. Kind of sucked,  it in reality it wasn’t so bad. but I got like half of what you got. if this was fluff, prob would have had 12”.

Yeah next few hours valley should rock as it slowly pivots across state

I don’t think this band is gonna stop and pose for a picture. It’s gonna be in and out of any given area in about 30 minutes.

I should’ve waited a little longer though because I just got the driveway down to pavement and now it’s finally snowing moderately again.

24.5F  -SN  Vis 3 miles.   I am happy that we got .25".   For fun over the last few years I have forecasted for our 13K Newfound Lake facebook group.  I had predicted 2-4" but thought with White Mountain downsloping it might not be even that.  All morning not a flake but we did get into some light snow so everything is dusted with new stuff.  I am amazed that there has been almost no wind.  Not even a breezy day.  I don't understand why?

I'm not questioning your measurement, so much as your philosophical outlook. You think about the ideal thing you don't have rather than the very good thing you have.

12” is Ideal or Very Good?  I understand Jackpotting is Impossible.  But when your driveway has a uniform 6-10, and Providence 15 minutes south who Always 99% loses to you, has 33-36?  I know how classic Blizzards look here for snow total.  The Wind was Worthy.  I have Not attacked the Wings and Horizontal Snow.  THAT is certainly worthy.  But Every aspect of the piles to how it sits in the cars and the trees… This ain’t Close to 2013 or 2005 or 2015.

I’ll take a video of here and put it on YouTube. so you guys can stop Losing your Mind on me.

It's okay to be disappointed, and put it down in words here.  It's the tone that matters.

I feel bad that the storm was not as prolific for others as it could have been.  That being said, there's always winners and losers in these big storms.  It's rare that everyone wins because what produces the snow on the north west side of these storms is banding, and it's almost impossible to have bands that cover our entire region to make everyone a winner.  It truly is like going to the casino - only a few are going to jackpot. Usually for my area to win, somewhere else has just cashed in their last snow chip without a good return.

At the end of the day, it's just weather, and we aren't in control of it.  It's nice we see all four seasons in New England.  I can't imagine, even when I get a 20" winter, living somewhere where you don't get the variety of weather you get here.

Great post. I'm in North Providence, RI, for the past 5 years. I found myself doing the same thing. "I don't care what amount I get as long as it's the MOST that fell anywhere". We just hate being lower than others, but love to be higher than others!! Ha ha! I had to learn long ago that it's the luck of the draw, and that you win some and lose some. But very hard to be the one hitting the jackpot. Not just in place, but in time. I have always wished I could time travel to March of 1888 and be in Saratoga Springs, NY for that storm. And not just amounts, but snow in odd places. San Francisco getting 4 inches in the 1880's. Houston, TX getting 20 inches in 1895. Stuff like that. And you are correct. We get a large variety of weather here in New England and I would be sad to move away and miss it all.
