I'm probably going to slide out to western Garrett Co. for this one. I am off after Thursday AM, so I'm probably going to leave early Friday AM and head out there for the Arctic front and snow squalls. Should be fun! Anyone care to join the ride?

When my wife and I want to take a trip up to the mountains, we go through there on Rt.234. Very nice drive and not far from mby. Have fun.

By the way, if you're interested in decent Mexican food, stop off at Montezumas Restaurant on PA Rt. 30 on the west side of Gettysburg. We love it. You can get back to Baltimore via Rt. 30 from Michaux too.

It's really good.

Never hiked there. In college, many, many years ago, it was Cunningham locally and Shenandoah/Big Meadows area on weekend trips. Always wanted to hike Old Rag, but never got around to it.

I’ve done Old Rag at least ten times. I’ll let you know when I go though I doubt it will be before the permit season starts March 1. It also always includes a trip to the Coppet Fox distillery in Sperryville.

Lake Erie is largely frozen over which may reduce the amount of decaying squall activity reaching w MD for rejuvenation, but the flow seems due northerly more from a Lake Ontario fetch anyway at least over e MD. I can't see this dropping more than 0.1" or 0.2" at airports and population centers, maybe an inch or two in higher areas to the west. Could be brief moderate snow conditions during fropa which looks to be around 0200-0400 Saturday. 

Monday 9th looks a bit more promising for small amounts of snow.

possibly impacting the evening commute on Friday. Upslope snow in
the central Appalachians should maximize Friday afternoon/evening
as the front moves through.

KEY MESSAGE 1...A potent winter storm with multiple hazards is likely to
  impact the region Friday into the weekend.

A potent upper trough and Arctic cold front are set to track across
the region Friday into the weekend.

A lead shortwave-trough ahead of the Arctic front will bring the
chance of snow showers areawide during the day Friday with
moderate to heavy snow across the mountains as upper trough digs
and lift increases. Snow squalls are possible everywhere Friday
night with blizzard-like conditions possible across the
mountains for a short period of time Friday night.

There will also be an abrupt onset of very windy conditions
immediately behind the passage of the Arctic front late Friday
night. Wind Advisory conditions are becoming increasingly
likely late Friday night through Saturday with winds potentially
reaching High Wind Warning criteria for a large portion of the
forecast area given the magnitue of the 925 and 850 mb winds and
favorable mixing during daylight hours. This when combined with
rapidly falling temperatures will result in Cold Weather
Advisories everywhere even during the warmest part of the day
Saturday. Extreme Cold Warnings are also possible across the
mountains.

Haven’t paid any attention to this, what’s the timing Friday? Kiddo has a dance competition so I’ll be traveling to Owings Mills in the afternoon/evening.

Friday evening. There's a Big Greek Cafe next to Stevenson University. Great food and it's always warm in there.

You can always dress warmer in winter.  You can't dress colder in summer.  Thats why winter is better to work in if outdoors.  I know.  30 years of it.

Yup. Same for volunteering at the fire department. Fires in the summer are terrible...you wilt quick. Fires in the winter are tolerable.
