Yesterday I was outside in the morning and in full sun, the wind died for a moment and I thought "it's not too bad out!".  It was 12F...

Same experience here in Herndon, VA yesterday afternoon in the sun with a moment of no wind. "Kinda nice actually..." It was 19F.

A good start to the new month with a new record 'cool max' of 22.7 degrees, beating 2019's 25.3 degrees. Low was 9.5 degrees right at the 7 am CoCoRaHS report. Wind was WNW at 9 gutsing to 20 mph, WC of -3 to -9 degrees. After we cleared out around midnight last night that nearly full moon made it look like 4-5 pm in afternoon it was so bright shining off the glacier. Had some flurries yesterday evening, but no new accumulation, that all went @Bob Chill and @Buddy1987's way and further south.

That's how it is up on the Tug. Average highs this time of year is like 22. With sunny skies and no wind it feel like it's 50 but nothing is melting. Just a spectator place. 

Windy and cold here in the frozen lowlands.

The moonlight was so bright!

I looked out at one point during the night and the moon looked almost ice-frosted, blurry, cirrus I assume, but still SO bright. It was almost creepy but pretty.

Many people ask how you can live in the north with those cold temperatures.  And you nailed the answer, you kind of just get used to it and dress appropriately.

As someone who will golf in the winter, you learn sun w/o wind is bearable. Yesterday morning, my grandson went sledding with one of his friends and I stood outside talking to the dad for about an hour. The lack of clouds and wind (and many layers including my new Penn State hoodie) definitely made it bearable.

Low of 11 with minimum hourly wind chill of -4

Any south  to southwest breeze influenced warm up is going to travel hundreds of miles over snowpack before reaching our snowpack .  It will be interesting to see how that influences milder air attempts starting with tomorrows predicted high temps of 30-33 and 32-35 Tuesday for DC

This is an arctic siege due to duration length.  It’s not a frigid one or two day blast which often sets our records but rather a protracted highs 18-25 and lows 0 to 10.
