Not very many neighbors out enjoying the weather today.

Only ones out were clearing their driveways and even then, quickly returned to their warm houses.

It doesn't compare to the likes of Valentines Day 2016 or Feb 2023. We just don't see temperatures like that very often in this area. In the past 35 years PVD has gotten below -5F only three times. 01/16/04, 02/14/16 and 02/04/23. Overall it is a rare event and there are many winters where it doesn't even get down to zero. Hence why we are now in USDA Hardiness Zone 7A.

(note added later, these 1934 lows quoted above were actually midnight lows on the way down to colder readings the next day, I was mistakenly assuming Sunday was the 9th but it's really the 8th ... that probably explains why ORH and BDL did not have 1934 record lows for the 8th but I'll check when they show up on climate reports what all four locations set as records on the 9th). 

If Saranac Lake hits -40 tonight, I’ll go there and shovel @WxWatcher007driveway I after the next snowstorm greater than 6”.

Zero chance of -40 at SLK. When we get that cold again you’ll see it coming from a mile away.

In over +100 years (since 1918), Boston is looking to make a run at the longest stretch (19-days) where day-time highs failed to break above 34°F (currently at 16).

Impressive stuff to not have a few days pop into the 40's, while also considering the potentially warm-biased Logan readings vs. history.
