Jackstraw
Almost 2in here. Winds light with some gusts buts enough to blow this stuff. Dime-Nickel flake size. Some 1 footers out there already. Country roads have drift ripples building. Hope this front end lasts.

Harry Perry
Snow started here in the last half hour. Dusting on everything. 3° with a dewpoint of 0° so I guess you could say it’s pretty humid out.

Radtechwxman
Nice frontogenic band setting up over me. Finally getting better rates and bigger flakes. Curious how rest of night will shape up.

But its definitely east of where most hi-res guidance was placing it at this point.

The main question more-so is how far onshore it'll move and how long it will take up residence in a particular area. The 00z HRRR and NAMnest initialized adequately with it. Suspiciously low QPF response given the evolution progged, although presumably it would be higher ratio than Kuchera output. ILSNOW
Chicago NWS update With increasing low-level convergence forced by stronger easterly flow through the night, would have to think that the lake effect snow band should have more success moving inland with time, even if just for a few miles. Based on the current trajectory and west/northwestward drift of the snow band, areas near and north of Evanston appear most in line to see the lake effect snow overnight. After daybreak, the expectation is for the snow band to pivot back southeastward across northeastern Illinois during the morning hours and into northwestern Indiana during the afternoon as the low-level wind field backs along the backside of the departing storm system. Chicago Storm
Lake enhancement is doing work downtown. Looks like about SN 1/2SM on the EarthCam.
DocATL
RAP Seems quite a bit high for areas away from the lake. I don’t see anyone in DuPage county getting to 4 inches.
NEILwxbo
Snowglobe downtown, near 2” along the lake it appears now. Exceeding expectations. Would be nice if that mesovort can pivot this way tomorrow morning
OHweather
Even though the lake effect affecting the southwestern shoreline of Lake Michigan tonight into Sunday is rather shallow, forecast soundings within it depict strong low-level instability with lift maximizing in the DGZ. Supportive of relatively intense and very fluffy/high ratio lake effect. If the band can sit over an area for several hours...which may be possible somewhere over NE IL or far SE WI within a few miles of the lake...there's definitely local overperformance potential into the 6" range.
homedis
Even outside of the main “band” it seems like we’re getting some enhanced returns throughout cook county lakeshore. Even if an average of these rates can keep up until Sunday afternoon, it would be a decent hit for downtown. Around 1.5” so far ~2mi from the lake.

cyclone77
Have been just baaarely hanging onto the extreme northwest edge of this thing. Maybe two tenths or so now. If we can manage to stay within the fringe for another 6 hours or so we may be able to muster a half inch, which would be a pretty big win considering a complete whiff was definitely possible.
