Extreme Cold, Snow & Sleet: SECS 1/24 - 1/26

Looks like my town will be where the sleet/snow battle is. Exit 12 on the turnpike in NJ, few miles south of the city, across from Staten Island.

Still mostly snow right now

I see it retreated a few miles by Staten Island. Watching it like a hawk

Some people really seem to be cheering for sleet. Why do some put so much faith in one model that is being retired and not receiving many updates?

Pingers here now. The NAM was right about the early mixing, but thankfully the thump was excellent.

seeing some of that too over here now; but its not wet sleet; this stuff can accumulate. its smaller and almost looks like snow. in fact if i couldn't hear it i couldn't tell..you can see it bouncing and blowing too. this so far is not the pounding, sandblaster sleet....if i'm making any sense here.....

Me too (Pats fan here) but I have to imagine they would have been forced to postpone. Sending 65K people out into the heavy snow at 7 PM tonight up there would have been a disaster.

yeah the nam nailed the timing...the run from last night had 6 or so on Kuchera so the high ratios overperformed where we might have around 8 instead

Getting absolutely crushed right now and radar looks amazing. Just measured 6” on the nose on the patio. 15 degrees. 
 

NAM had me at 4.5” last night.

2” an hour rates now for Long Island. Incredible storm! Took the dog for a walk earlier and he loved it.
