Yes I work outside. Will enjoy it today. In mid to upper 80s already and looking forward to a historically 3 day stretch

The sample size for La Ninas reaching 102° and higher in June is very small. The only 2 years were 2021 and 2011. In 2021 when it reached 103° that was the high for the entire summer. But in 2011 the 102° in June was followed by 108° in late July.

Had posted last night that this ridge position and >594 DM is similar to Jul 18-19 2013 where all sites except the park got to 100.  I think its closer to that , than last year's.

Thurs is one of the days that will either be well below or way higher than projected for highs pending on the storms.   Friday looks much a lock for onshore / cooler and cloudy day.  Sat/Sun Flordiay style with sun hot quickly, weatch for storms.

Most don't.   Outdoor activity other than swimming gets tough...even sitting on beach the sand is like an oven....

in 2021 it did get into the upper 90s a few stretches in both July and August.  EWR came just shy with 99 , 98's

Both 2011 and 2021 had 10”+ flooding rainfall events later in the summer. So we’ll see if this monsoon-like rainfall pattern repeats again later this summer. Those 2 last Niña summers were defined by record rains following record heat.

when I was growing up I spent a lot of time in tropical places and deserts in the summer so I'm used to it, it rejuvenates me.  Nothing worse than rain and clouds in the summer.

It's already up to 91 here at 9 am, I told you the coast heats up faster....

Yep 91 here too, heat on the south shore is very underrated, the temperatures rise much faster here than they do on the Arctic North Shore (especially up until 1 or 2 pm.)

It's hot for 9AM, but it's not hot enough to cause heat related power outages though.

it's already 91 here, we're off to the races, just like my favorite historic summer days :-)

My benchmark for historic heat which I developed during the summer of 1993 was to reach 90 degrees before 10 am, if that happens and assuming no sea breeze before 3 pm, 100 is within reach.

On July 9, 1993 we were heating up like we are today and hit 90 at 8:30 am and 92 at 9 am, and rose 4 degrees per hour until we hit 100 between 12 and 1.

I think there's always someone with a power outage on those maps. Look to Astoria for the first heat related power outages, if it starts to light up there you know CONED is having a problem.

No. It just depends on the wind direction. Today the wind has a northerly component so the south shore will heat up faster. But by mid afternoon that will change.
