Snow Friday 1/19/24: is it a period of light snow (less than 2"), or is there a chance of a 5" swath in part of the NYC subforum? Event OBS.

The limited accumulation is a direct result of the sun being clearly visible during the snow and the relatively low rates. If this were a heavier snow I don't think it would have been a problem. Sun angle really isn't an issue. There have been several events where it's in the 60s the day before a good snow here that continued through the daytime in February.

You are 100% right. At my house low rates. Didn’t pile up

in kings park was heavy and accumulated just fine

It's almost as if the subsidence we were dealing with helped get whatever snow was in the atmosphere down to the ground.

Solar insolation was less here because we did not order the dumplings (dim sun/m).  There was an effect in the street and certainly the leftover salt from earlier in the week helped, but I didn't see the sun through the clouds today.

At least today, it looks like winter:

Anybody know why I can’t post a photo on here even with a screenshot

Is the attachment too big?  Otherwise, you should be able to.  I've had to delete old attachments posted since there's a limit.

Our preliminary snow totals as of 5 pm...

Central Park: 0.4"

JFK: 0.3"

LGA: 1.3"

EWR: 0.6"

ISP: 0.5"

BDR: 0.5"

NWS office (Upton, NY): 1.1"

Danbury, CT: 1.2"

Chester, NY: 1.7"

That came out a short time ago. The 0.1” was the 1 pm figure.
