I would agree with powder on this having witnessed the vibrance of the reds at Bolton above 1500ft. I plan on dropping by Stowe/Smuggs tomorrow morning (I finally should have that window to get there). Hopefully it looks just as good then. The camera will dull an image a bit and a lot of times it will wash it out with blue a bit or a cooler color temp in terms of the white balance. That is automatically going to mute the colors. I corrected the white balance in mine and sharpened them some but I did not jack up the saturation levels. I have seen some photogs who clearly have though to where it is way too overdone.

Backedge posted a couple from his iPhone that were awsome. Here Is one from this evening over in Northfield. Like PF said though, the camera just didn't do it justice.

Awesome man, looks so peaceful.

And yeah the camera so often won't do it justice.  Like I know that foliage in your photo probably looked on fire.

Nice shots!  That looks about right, look at those reds. Really solid foliage season.

I passed right through your hood on the way home, really nice foliage around St John, Jay and down to Stowe. I've never been up that way for foliage before. Next year I want to do Baxter and Sugarloaf/Saddleback for foliage.

I hit up Stowe as the sun came up and Powder wasn't kidding. Also between Plainfield and Marshfield was the most vibrant I have seen in my 4th Vermont fall! Groton State Forest was nice but leaf drop already starting there.

Suggestion at Baxter (though it's all spectacular):  Drive to Roaring Brook campground, then take the (short) trail to Sandy Stream Pond.  From its east side the whole Baxter mountains are in front of you, with fiery maples at the foot blending into birch-dominated yellows farther up, then to the dark green fir/spruce, and finally the grey rock above tree line.  It's a visual parfait that's hard to match.  Best seen in mid morning.  (Or maybe just after sunrise - I've never seen it at that time, but bright colors above a mist-covered pond sounds like a winner.)

Maybe by next year the new National Monument east of Baxter will have improved access and some openings cut to allow visitors some long-perspective view of the mountains.

Haha, yeah it's happening here right now.

What time did you fly a drone?  I saw a white one flying out of Barnes Camp (the Stowe side parking lot at the entrance of the Notch) around like 9am.  Was wondering if it was you.

I had mine up between 7:30 and 8am from the same spot but flew away from the resort area into the notch before making any approach to Mansfield.

The fog over Lake Champlain has been beautiful the past few mornings.

That is awesome! I am sorry I missed that this morning. I caught these in Groton and Stowe. I did not add saturation boost. It is really very vibrant right now:

In this last image I actually tweaked the vibrance down because it was blowing out the reds too much. It was the most vivid fall color I have ever seen, certainly in my 4 falls here.
