yhbrooklyn
I swear, some of the captain obvious posts drive me nuts. They are like stupid sports announcers: "You know what this team losing by 7 points really needs, Bob? A touchdown". "Jim, a home run here would really help this team losing by a run". yhbrooklyn
Thank you, I even made a clarifying post about how I wasn't in a bad place with a third of Winter to go, it's just nowhere near as good as places further SE. Especially on Long Island which I think has seen at least 3 Warning criteria snowfalls this year if not more. It's not you.

IsentropicLift
All I have to say about the way things have gone this year is "Thank God I didn't get shafted by the blizzard" because otherwise I could have been starring down a record low season total here. LongBeachSurfFreak
22" here. Very nice hit, not in the JP zone but nothing to complain about. That's a solid historic storm. No way you can complain in a super Nino after that!!!! On the train to the city right now and can see snow totals drop as I head west. This storm was definitely an eastern Nassau county special!!!!! Hailstorm
Ugh, not good trends today. Coastal storm underperforming for NYC. IVT getting less and less promising. Sat's storm is gone on the Euro. Arctic shot to be much less severe than modeled yesterday per GFS. 12z Euro: We torch into the 40s next Tues upon arrival of the next storm. bluewave
It was a good thing that the LB Polar Bear swim was this Sunday and not next. That was one Long Beach tradition that I was glad not to participate in. https://www.facebook.com/assemblymankaminsky/videos/1268549966505472/
EasternLI
I'd put zero stock in the Euro day 8 depiction. For 2 reasons. 1- It's an op run at day 8+ 2- H5 vort chart looks like some abstract art for that period

Was hoping to get some type of decent snow pack going again before the crazy arctic air dumps into the area in a few days. Even if it would have been just 3 or 4 inches from the early part of this week. Lots of bare ground up here in Eastern Bergen.
North and West of Town
Yep I had friends that were on the ship Good lord, have you heard from them? My wife and I were on a Norwegian Cruise Line boat from Miami the weekend after the Blizzard. It was nice to go from a great storm and about 2' of snow, to 70 and sun and calm seas. Very fortunate we missed this nightmare; people outside of this board don't realize nor'easters can be as bad or worse than hurricanes in the open ocean. Yeah they posted on Facebook that they were on the ship but that they're fine. But instead of going to Florida they're turning around and headed back to portSent from my VS986 using Tapatalk

Maybe the blocking has been so strong that the storm track is getting displaced further SE than normal. Even 09-10 had a few high profile misses N and W of NYC. NYCGreg
This would have been a special storm had it been able to ride up the coast. Oh well. I guess that's why the rare blizzard is so special; not so easy to get a direct hit from those storms.

New England is almost always going to see quite a bit of snow; no matter what the pattern is (save for the extreme southeast portion of the region). Long Island & central New Jersey have definitely profited from the blocking action you cite; though really semi-continuously since that 2000-01 winter.
