I've never heard anything so ridiculous.. When it snows , go out and stick a ruler in the snow and report what it says

If you dont have a good site, then it won't be very accurate. You'll get all sorts of unwanted contamination....roof blow-off, heat sinks (like concrete or blacktop), wind barriers (that also block snow), etc...siting is important.

No, its not very good. I've seen his area. The tall complex buildings make it difficult and there's a big open parking area, but the blacktop obviously is no good for measuring either.

I wish my apartment complex had a location to measure snow...it sucks.  What I'll have to do this winter is run across the street and randomly go into someone's front yard...just hopefully they don't call the cops...that would be fun trying to explain.

I could only imagine if I was out and asked my gf to run across the street and measure...that would go over well

You could go over and ask if they wouldn't mind you measuring snow in there yard but they will probably think you have lost your mind...............lol

It's so hard to find good measurements when it's a windy snow...gotta put up a circular snow fence, preferably two rings and put the board in there.

The thing in cities and more heavily developed areas, is you have a lot of roof contamination from buildings and even cars sometimes. It's like you see a photo after a big storm and every single roof is wiped clean...it's like if you took an aerial photo looking straight down, half of the space is occupied by snow-less roofs, the other half is streets, small yards, and sidewalks. I've never understood how you measure that as you know all those city rooflines are just wind loading snow into people's yards and the roads and essentially "filling in the cracks."

don't trees especially evergreens do the same at your measuring spots.

Color has really shown up here starting about seven days ago. Started most noticeably in the swampy areas that surround Harold Parker Forest. Which is a beautiful place by the way..

Pattern is very dry in the long term in terms of precip and humidity/dewpoint. Look out for brush fires depending on wind, and length of the pattern. I remember some large fires in the past few years with these nw flow warm days when it gets gusty.

OT: I found out Friday after meeting with a spinal specialist in Boston that my football career is over. Mentioned it in banter in detail a few weeks ago. Spinal fusion surgery October 14th. c5/c6 large central disc herniation compressing the spinal cord. Some minor disc protrusion at c6/c7. Disc degeneration from c3-7. Weakness, numbness, pain down both arms, has been migrating down my back and legs in the past week or so... Can't wait to get in there and get this off my nerves in my neck. They are going to go in and remove c5/6 and put bone in between where the disc was and hold it in with a plate and rods. Hopefully my neck curve comes back as my neck spine is collapsing forward.

Fall color is starting here. The swamp maples will probably peak within the next week or so and some of the white ashes are beginning to turn as well, or at least those that aren't afflicted by the emerald ash borer. I think the foliage is a bit slower this year compared to last, as we had tons of rain in June and July resulting in trees that aren't too stressed. Despite having a dry August and September, there's probably still tons of moisture deeper down.

Ryan doesn't live where he used to neither do I. I moved out of my moms and into an apartment complex right around the corner. I have nothing IMBY.

Will saw my yard in July and just vouched how bad it is.

There are houses across the street which have open enough front yards to where I could measure, although I will probably measure less than what it really is so it's not ideal.

Education is still paid for thats the important part. Keep Don in Arlington in your thoughts before me.. He's having a much rougher go of it

Hoping your surgery turns out even better than my C4-C5 fusion. Degrade stopped immediately, and over the next few months about 3/4 of strength and a somewhat lesser proportion of balance was restored. I think my loss of function might have been greater that yours, though my pain was much much less.
