Gil of NIU Weather has a very interesting forecast discussion today including the comment that if his forecast for Saturday's system verifies DeKalb could get its average Feb. snowfall in one day, Feb. 1.  That puts this season in perspective.

I had forgotten about Gil, sounds like he thinks next weeks system goes north as well.

dtx hinting at possible wsw later on

REGARDING HEADLINES, THE POTENTIAL FOR 6" IN 9-12 HOURS REMAINS IN
PLAY FOR A POTENTIAL WARNING, BUT WITH THE HEAVIEST BAND OF SNOW
LIKELY TO ONLY SPAN ABOUT ONE TIER OR SO OF COUNTIES IN WIDTH, THE
CONFIDENCE TO ISSUE A NARROW WARNING IS NOT THERE. INSTEAD OPTED TO
COVER THE EVENT WITH A HIGH END ADVISORY FOR 4-7" TOTALS ACROSS THE
HEART OF THE FORECAST AREA AND LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN FOR AN UPGRADE TO
A WARNING ACROSS A NARROW CORRIDOR AS/IF ADDITIONAL DATA WARRANTS.
