January 2026 Short/Medium Range Thread
Holston_River_Rambler replied to John1122's topic in Tennessee Valley
SOI had a big drop recently after be positive for most of the past month Some say that portends a southern stream storm in 2-3 weeks, others are skeptical. Good convection near the dateline too: Strat still looks to get split in early to mid Feb. -

Texas 2026 Discussion/Observations

Tyler set the record low max yesterday. If it drops to 12 before midnight tonight it will set the record low for today and tomorrow. Late Jan record values are surprisingly warm so no surprise they are getting broken with this spell. Some records are at risk next weekend as well. -
I suggest checking out the thread @Typhoon Tip started in the NE forum. Classic signals are aligning and he’s all over it. And has been for a few days already. Mods - is there a way to have a thread exist in 2 forums? I am guessing no -

I'm having a hard time seeing this being able to be a storm for more than Asheboro north and east through the coastal plain -
Possible coastal storm centered on Feb 1 2026.

Hopefully not Islip, and rather the seagulls on https://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=44008 -
Has anyone looked for analogs? .

First time out shoveling since noon yesterday. There's a light glaze on the car windows suggesting some ZR must have mixed in. Currently have a random flurry floating by. So to shovel and not hear the sound of drip-drip-drip. 20F/DP 17F

I thought I’d hate the sleet. Wasn’t as bad as I thought. It barely impacted the snow depth we had roughly 8-10” of snow and then freezing drizzle and then more heavy sleet ending with snow this morning. With drifts in the beginning parts of my yard are 15”

The radar is blossoming and it is now officially lightly snowing. Perhaps another day of putting something in the books. Love it. -

Ha Ha Ha my company has a ...wait for it! SNOW DAY. -
Yes this small line of snow showers has better flakes than yesterday. ^^; Better thermal profile for it.
-
Is it just me, or the radar in PA looking decent for some light snow later this morning/afternoon, maybe a coating to 0.5" later?
-
The west coast 500 mb ridge on the EPS is textbook for a major east coast snowfall, and has trended in a more favorable direction over the past several runs.

In an fairness the window i was watching was 27-29, the clipper i thought would dive and bomb at the coast. Which it does but too late for any effects but that does become our 50/50 for the weekend, so there's that.

15 inches here final. 95% snow

I've been getting some heavy flurries this morning and honestly it's probably the best snow ive seen out of this system lol.
