Not sure what you mean. There is no "versus". It is area - that's what km^2 is. The extent is the measure of the area - i.e. over how much area the ice extends, with coverage of 15% or greater. Perhaps I'm missing something?

Meh…I’m not feeling this one. That and we’ve barely had a drop while south of me people are getting beneficial rains. I’ve seen this on the winter. Sharp cut off between the haves and have nots -

Even here its been a nice day.. had a brief shower.. but a sun cloud mix now -
Seems to me itchy trigger finger , and/or inexperience, on these flood watches and warnings recently. Now if these statements are intended to care for 1-5% of the area that’s one thing but these have mostly not even reached “scattered” status .

Look like b/w Philly and the north NJ coast is getting hammered with training/stationary cells
-
Got maybe 0.15" yesterday in a brief shower. And that's basically it over the last week - squeaked out a half inch last Monday. The sunnier neighborhood lawns are browning out, but its still decently green here
-
South shore looking pretty good, around 2” it looks like around JFK. Here it’s very meh and staying that way with the heavy rain going south. Getting split screwed.
-
Yeah it’s been pretty relentless since 10p last night.

Power still out ?
-
Wow. I thought my 2" was a lot
-
I picked up about .30” in that passing shower in the past hour, and combined with last night’s .51” and Saturday’s .18”, I’ve gotten about an inch so far.

Looks like the heaviest precip will slide to my south

Those warm anomalies aren’t helping.

Picked up 1.76" from that storm, though it is still raining a little. Just heard our fire department called out for a search, "Occupied vehicle in the water." How about that rainfall rate! -
Currently a steady rain here at Coppin (West Baltimore)

HRRR sweeps through the metro areas after dark. 3k has weird storm movement e to w across the bay. Assuming that's initiated off existing boundaries.
