How is the niño looking right now? Still east based or becoming more basin wide?

@dailylurker and I rented a cabin close to the apex of the Tug Hill from December - February. Elevation will be critical, even in upstate NY so hedging our bets for the winter - my hope is we will be buried from start to finish.

A look at Greenland. Was checking out the mass changes, and it looks like the rate of loss has slowed a little since 2013. 2002-2012 had a loss that contributed ~8.5mm (0.33") of sea level rise. From 2013-2025 it slowed to ~6mm (0.24"). Also put together a yearly SMB since 2012. Just an interesting tidbit.

I imagine the last Drought Monitor update of August will have widespread “abnormally dry”

Got another typical thunderstorm here 0.03 But kind of glad we missed this one... 0.60 for the month However there was a lot of wind here... Seeing reports in the Stuarts Draft area south of Waynesboro where they have had good rains recently - of signifcant wind damage to trees and power lines including trailers at the Hershey plant being blown over...

Looks like an attempt at a seabreeze on radar pushing north around Sunrise Highway.

Dew point today mostly mid upper 60's... High temp still up to 93°.

Yup hammering this afternoon.

2026-2027 Record-breaking El Nino
bncho replied to Stormchaserchuck1's topic in Weather Forecasting and Discussion
Not to be a downer or anything but is it possible/likely that the models that show the favorable Feb/Mar pattern are just falling back on what a normal El Niño would generally do? This is not a normal El Niño. I think @bluewave has touched on this in seasons past about how seasonal models are susceptible to this? Just worried for something like Feb 2024 to happen. -
High peaked at 99.1 but heat index peaked at 110.7. This is absolutely brutal weather and no outflows to save us today
-
91 today. North wind so no relief from a seabreeze

Tropics?

A true gulley washer supreme in the area this afternoon. -
Impressive-looking bowing segment just to my west. Some damage reports from this in Michigan City already.
