Spring/Summer 2026 Pattern Discussion Thread
John1122 replied to Carvers Gap's topic in Tennessee Valley
This week's drought monitor didn't really change for my area despite around 3.5 inches of rainfall since it last came out. Surprised by that. Remained abnormally dry. -

I only got about .4 yesterday. 15 miles away it was 10x that. After 15 inches in 30 days, I'm kind of glad to have missed it. My yard is out of control and it hasn't been dry a single 24 hour period in seemingly over a week. -
I don't agree with a -PNA winter season.

NWS State College: So far this year, we have issued more Severe Thunderstorm + Tornado Warnings than any time in our office's history! 238 SVR + TOR warnings year-to-date surpasses 2019 (232) and 1998 (230). We are GRATEFUL for this ongoing stretch of tranquil weather. #PAwx -

I thought July 2012 broke the record for the warmest month. Or is that still in verification stage? -

I was asking about the contours in the rossby wave source map. Assuming those are 200mb ridges and troughs (with the opposite sign). -

gorgeous weather. Much appreciated but I think any talk of summer's back being broken is a tad premature.

If you could re-experience ONE winter event....

When I think of water skiing, I think of warm water. I can’t imagine the water was all that warm in late December. I vaguely remember that Christmas even though I was only 4 just because the weather was what everyone was talking about. The following Christmas was brutally cold I believe but I don’t remember anything about that one. lol -
Another one of those top ten days…….

We had 0.03" (total 0.07" for the month) and Centennial Airport had 0.02". Clearly very hit and miss, with areas north, east and south doing better. Keep fingers crossed for today. -

Climatologist49 @climatologist49.bsky.social Follow If July ended today, it would tie with 1936 as the warmest July (and month) on record for the Contiguous U.S. Looking at the forecast for the rest of the month, I suspect we will not quite break the 1936 record. 1:17 PM · Jul 22, 2026 Climatologist49 @climatologist49.bsky.social Follow Map showing how many months so far in 2026 (Thru July 17th) each of the 385 "ThreadEx" stations have set or tied a monthly record high or low temperature record. Yeah I agree, although I think part of it is just adapting to the cold by then. Think of Novemeber when we first dip into the low 30's at night how cold that feels. Yet by February a high in the 30's would be nothing.
