Tomorrow's a wake up and see day. No point to modeling. -
2009 would probably be too big of an ask in this much warmer climate. It was the 2nd coolest June and July on record at spots like Islip. 2023 was our last summer with a developing El Niño that became very strong. Was cooler overall than the other 2020s summers so far but still not really cool by historical standards. 2026-2027 El Nino
George001 replied to Stormchaserchuck1's topic in Weather Forecasting and Discussion
Agree. The facts are fairly straightforward. An El Niño is developing, and it is developing similarly to previous strong and super ninos. If it does become a super Nino it won’t be the first one, and certainly won’t be the last. Personally I don’t think it’s a huge deal, I mean im not too happy about it because it’s an unfavorable ENSO state for cold and snow for my area, but it’s not like the El Niño itself is an actual threat to our lives or anything. 2015-2016 happened, life went on. Same thing will happen with this event. -
0.22" of rain from overnight showers. Plenty more to come in the next 48 hrs. Damp with temps in the 40's.

Not quite. Cheifs traded picks 78 and 148, Birds traded 114 and 137. All and all, I like what Howie did there. With Brown leaving and Hurts is in his prime you have to give him every possible tool. And I agree picking up Greenard was a good move and yes he should have a field day out there for the reason you mentioned...

.71" of rain here. -
2009 was another one of those years that led into a strong el nino. All the colder Junes in the last 30 years have happened in lead-ups to strong or super el ninos (1997, 2009, and 2023). 1997 and 2009 both finished with well below average summer temps, while 2023 finished near normal. 2015, on the other hand, had a near record warm May, and a warmer than normal summer. Same with 1991. Oddly enough, both years were preceded by borderline warm neutral/weak el ninos. The summers before, 1990 and 2014, were much cooler.

Potential Sever Weather Outbreak 4/27/2026

I would agree with you if there was less of a signal for extensive morning convection on the CAMs, however... it's an interesting disagreement between the mesoscale models (NAM, RAP) and the CAMs (3K NAM, HRRR). The former two build a very potent environment into east IA/N IL/even S WI late Monday afternoon/evening, which the latter two fail to do because of the impacts of the aforementioned incessant convection. -
Fantastic morning here, going to get out for a hike this afternoon.
