I see Waycross is currently 94/80 with a HI of 113.  How common are 80F dewpoints in the South?

80º dewpoints do occur a just a bit more frequently than 113º temps in Georgia. As a point of reference, the all time record high temp in Georgia is 112º.  However, faulty sensors occur with depressing regularity.

Not very common, in fact they are rare. There is just something about this area that we get 80F dewpoints a few times in the Summer. It's nasty out.

Just to add that it is location dependent as well when talking about the south as a whole.  The highest dewpoints you would ever see in places like Atlanta and Charlotte are something in the 73-74 range.  The highest dewpoints normally occur in locations just inland of the coastline.  Places like Waycross, GA and Hardeeville, SC know how to bring the heat and humidity.  By contrast, places like Columbia, SC and Augusta, GA are normally slightly hotter, but with dewpoints slightly lower.

Currently 101 with a heat index of 115. We made it to the triple digits for the first to in 3 years.

Edit: 102!!! Extremely hot and dry. Forecast today called for only 98. Yesterday they called for 100 for today. I'm guessing the very dry ground has to also play a factor in us getting this hot because we have had basically no rain this month.

Cold front has definitely passed the mountains. Some of the higher elevations (> 5000..maybe lower) should have highs in the 50s the next few days. Great time to go camping.

Yes this weather is awesome for the end of July standards. Sitting at a cool 66 degrees this evening with clear skies. Pretty much unheard of for this time of the year.

Nice all the storms disappeared. (Like I didn't know that was going to happen. Even with the extremely unstable atmosphere) Oh well, at least we can break the all time record high minimum now!

Nothing like a maximum, minimum, all time record high, low.

dropped to 57 last night imby - hard to believe we are in july and mid summer lol.  temps already in the mid 60s.  if we can get another good rain storm this weekend this will end up being one of the more active weeks for wx in ga, at least, during the summer in ages (not counting tropical systems of course, which never tend to happen any more it seems ha)
