donsutherland1
Milder weather has now returned to the region. Tomorrow through Monday will see the mercury top out to the upper 60s and lower 70s across the region. The week will also be dry. The next chance for precipitation could be Sunday or Monday. The moisture could be enhanced by the remnants of Isaiah. The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +5.3°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +3.2°C for the week centered around September 30. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +4.63°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +2.92°C. Both ENSO regions have set new all-time records. The ongoing strong El Niño, will continue to strengthen through the mid-fall. The SOI was -22.63 today. The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was +0.722 today. Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied near 55% probability that New York City will have a warmer than normal October (1991-2020 normal). October will likely finish with a mean temperature near 58.4° (0.5° above normal). Supplemental Information: The projected mean would be 1.5° above the 1981-2010 normal monthly value.

Valley spots a few degrees lower. Overall a very chilly morning across NJ: Low of 35 here I'll post some frost photos. Edit can't post them darned file size limit so here is another fall foliage photo instead. On 10/7/2026 at 7:39 AM, TWCCraig said: 40.2°F low. No frost here. Looks like Westhampton dropped to 30 degrees. Avoided the 30s here for now If they got down to 30 they beat Mount Pocono by 1 degree. While the first Isaias gave me my strongest wind gusts to 78 mph back in SW Suffolk, it didn’t produce wide enough damage as a weaker hurricane and then tropical storm to have the name retired. Many big majors get retired along with weaker systems which produce historic rainfall. All Cat 1 landfalls should be retired. Worst since Sandy both for winds and damage. On 10/7/2026 at 8:27 AM, WestBabylonWeather said: Being in southwest Suffolk I can tell you how serious Isaias was here. We had no power for about 8 days. Trees down everywhere. It was worse than Sandy for us personally It was also unexpected. On 10/7/2026 at 8:40 AM, bluewave said: Luckily, my power was only out for 24 hrs. Took down a bunch of trees. But borderline TS to Cat 1 systems don’t get retired unless they cause historic flooding like Agnes in 1972. It should be mandatory for all Cat 1 landfalls to be retired. Luckily up here the heavy rain and intense winds are completely separate in tropical systems. Worst since Sandy. On 10/7/2026 at 9:00 AM, Poker2015 said: Same thing here. On the phone and hear a huge crash next door. 3 huge oak trees all went down and only missed their house because 2 of them landed on another tree and held them up. This is why you need to remove weak trees near the house. On 10/7/2026 at 9:18 AM, WestBabylonWeather said: My neighbors tree fell and took out a pole. PSEG had no poles. An out of state crew replaced it 8 days later. the tree that fell was hollow and had the largest carpenter ant nest I’ve ever seen. Because of that tree falling during the storm my property was inundated with carpenter ants. Had no choice to get an exterminator they were on the house from that stupid storm Yikes that's NASTY! The weekend of 26/27, it was on several times during the day. Who wants to be cold and damp in their house? Bizzaro I had both air conditioning and heat on in August. A few streets away though where they didn’t trim had no power for 2.5 days. Weak trees close to the house need to be removed I had to do that after a microburst in 2018. Five of these would be equivalent to a hundred post/responses daily. You would definitely secure a place in the New Englands Forums post count hall of fame.
