 Bottlenose dolphins are increasingly spotted in the Long Island Sound as they follow schools of fish into the warming waters.

Recent Sightings and Encounters:

Branford and Stony Creek: On September 4, 2026, a pod of more than 20 bottlenose dolphins surrounded a boat piloted by a wildlife refuge worker traveling from Falkner Island toward Stony Creek.

Norwalk and Western Sound: Multiple pods have been documented by local boaters and fishermen off the coast of Norwalk and neighboring towns.

General Distribution: Sightings occur with regularity near Milford, Bridgeport, Stamford, Greenwich, and the Connecticut River

We had them here since June all the way up against the mainland. Everything moving north cow nose rays, cobia, snowy grouper Drum [Black Red] Pelicans etc

Experts said shark sightings in the sound are not rare, but hammerheads are a different story.

What?  The GFS and ECMWF show extended storminess, unlike anything I can recall in Sep.  Even before the rain, that E fetch sets up and sticks around for almost a week?  Do you know what kind of coastal flooding that will result in w/ the water piled up constantly for so long?

That sprawling high stuck to the N is epic for Sep.  1036 mb?  That would be excellent for the heart of winter.  And the GFS and ECMWF both shows it well.

And they way it tries to reload for coastals as the blocking stays in place?  And then big QPF wildcard.

I guess b/c it is isn't snow, @CoastalWx doesn't care?  Jaded, tattered, and torn from the "boring" pattern, and when something potentially historic for an extended Nor'easter so early in the season for the NEUS shows up, he be like "MEH!"  Very, very disappointed in you!

The ensembles see something similiar although farther offshore and more of a stall then a hook until finally getting pushed east.  One thing that is consistent is development of closed system in the region, sticking with the ensembles for now for guidance this far out. Enjoy the rainy sunday, you have a license to sit on the couch all day.

Wind will be less inland like usual, but it’s a multi-facet deal with heavy rain too. Possible coastal flooding as tides slowly get higher astronomically.

There’s enough ensemble members showing a decent hit unlike previous days. Still could jog east though so wouldn’t lock anything yet.

Doesn’t seem like anything to look forward to inland then . Strong pressure gradient could help winds

It would be windy, but they’ll probably be a cool wedge to stabilize the lower levels. Although if it retros far enough west that would increase winds.

Heat is on here but its a rental so not affcting my account.  We have it at 70, not going to get greedy.  However, when we move into our house in Ashburnham. MA next month, heat maybe at 66 when its on my dime.  

Ashburnham/Fitchburg seems very favorable for snow, big bonus!
