Yep, as much as I like the low electric bill and green aspect of it, not a fan. They effed up the flashing on my parents’ roof and the water damage destroyed the underlayment in their attic. They’ve been trying for months to get them to remove the panels so a roofer can replace the roof, but it’s going nowhere. My neighbor had panels installed and had water pouring through his bathroom fan during the first rain. These outfits slam as many arrays on as they can, but they often do substandard work and completely ignore problems once the project is done. Caveat emptor for sure.

I know many people that had the same issues. Many of the installers arent qualified to be serving up Happy Meals at McDonald's much less installing a solar panel system...

Even then there can be issues with repairs and/or having the panels removed.

I've done repairs mostly under warranty (see the banter thread for details) and I know the panels will need to be removed and replaced when I need to re-roof in 15 years, but other than that, why else I would remove the panels ?

I repair my house or car when it needs it, solar power generation is no different.  there's no so such thing as a free lunch, but with a little effort and ingenuity you can make lunch cheaper

That's the befuddling part lol...the heat mongers and high dews fans are all posting from the comfy confines of their air conditioned homes....makes zero sense to like heat and high dews and be inside..

I see more heat lovers out enjoying this than cold lovers out enjoying -40 wind chills

Some electricians and/or roofing companies  will not  touch that job..

....some home buyers do request solar panels be removed as part of the purchase offer.

When doing the research for my system, I came across these stories over and over.  the way I mitigated this risk was to hire the same contractor to install the system AND replace/upgrade the roof.  that way if there were any leaks, I knew who would be responsible.  it was a few more bucks than contracting these out separately

This is why you want to own the system.  No "permission" required to remove them or work on the system.

I'm fascinated by heat synoptics as meteorologically trackable phenomenon. And also now more than ever, a recognized phenotype that comes with sensible weather-related hardships and actual risks ...etc.

I don't like actually being in it.

I think that's fair.

People are fascinating with shit. Curiosity.  There are those interested in nuclear physics ... why should that mean they should enjoy wondering sightless through the smoldering aftermath of a nuclear holocaust?   I think it's a bit of a petty overreach to criticize ourselves for being fascinated with deep historic cold and blizzards, tornadoes and hurricanes... big heat waves, super volcanoes and cosmic ray bursts.

Now, if someone is wanton of destruction and seeing other's in harms way then suffering losses ..etc, that's something else. Perhaps a weird sociopathy

Lease agreements require new home owners to accept the original terms of the lease.  I wouldn't agree to that, either.

one of the big reasons why you want to own the panels and not lease them

We have a standing seam newer metal roof.  The panels are clamped on the standing seams.  2 years, no problems.  Just panels east/west on the barn.  Today I'm running 3 window ACs and charging my 4 year old Mustang Mache and the system is generating more power than I can use.  I'm sending the extra back to the grid and getting paid for that about $3 so far today.  Other people might have problems but going with my electric car and roof has been a huge W for us.  (Picture taken around 3:30pm).  Golden Retriever approved!

I see a diaster in the makings.  Not political this would happen no matter what administration but.... 3pm Euro temp's on July 4th in DC.  Severe thunderstorm potential too.  For security no umbrellas allowed on the National Mall.  No shade.  No shelter. No place to run for severe weather.  What could go wrong?

Yeah I bet the neighborhood is bustling at -25F.

I love the cold and spend most time outside on the mountain in it, but it’s a fools errand to say more folks are outside in extreme cold than extreme heat.

Plenty of folks out up here.

Good, actionable info.

A lot of anecdotal comments going around without nuance… obviously everyone’s mileage will vary.
