MANDA
Steady light rain ongoing but looks to be last batch. Should see drying and some brightening by later this afternoon. Event total here as of 8am 1.90". Hoping to get something on the grill for dinner. Remember those who gave all this Memorial Day. My great Uncle, killed on Iwo Jima. I of course never met him. He enlisted at age 18, right out of high school and was deployed to Iwo Jima. My mother told the story of how she was visiting her grandparents in rural Teaneck, NJ. and she was sitting in the living room with her grandmother (my great uncles mother) when two marines knocked on the door with the news that he had been killed. My nephew, a marine now holds his medals and dog tags. 8 9

winterwx21
1.86" event total here. Obviously bad timing for the holiday weekend, but I'm glad we got it since we really needed the rain. And at least the rain moved out in time for me to cook on the grill outside late yesterday, but I brought the food inside because it was so cool and nasty out there. Later today will be much nicer for sitting outside since it will warm up into the 70s -- I'm glad we can salvage part of the holiday weekend. 2

The only one on the block so far. My father and uncles survived WW2. Two uncles were on the same ship that was torpedoed and both made it. Even I, in my advanced age, as it gets harder to remember I still, will endeavor never to forget. As always … 8 3

Water isn’t warm enough and with no sun out it’s not desirable to head to the shore currently.

donsutherland1
Warmer temperatures lie ahead. The temperature will rise to above normal levels for tomorrow through Thursday. Exceptional heat is unlikely. It will turn somewhat cooler to end the week. The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +2.1°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +1.0°C for the week centered around May 20. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +1.72°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +0.83°C. The ongoing El Niño will continue to strengthen through the summer. The SOI was -25.41 today. The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was +1.581 today. Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied near 70% probability that New York City will have a warmer than normal May (1991-2020 normal). May will likely finish with a mean temperature near 63.8° (0.6° above normal). Supplemental Information: The projected mean would be 1.3° above the 1981-2010 normal monthly value.
