Winter Storm Warning in effect for Orange and Putnam Co. Coastal Flood Warning has been issued for the entire local coastline during high tide late Sunday night into early Monday morning. Widespread moderate, locally major, flooding likely along the southern bays of western LI, the Twin Forks, and north shore of LI. Areas of dune erosion are likely, with localized overwashes possible, along the ocean beachfront Sunday night into Monday morning. Timing: Light snow develops Sunday morning/afternoon, but the heavy wet accumulating snow doesn't begin until Sunday evening and persists through Monday morning. Light snow into Mon PM. Snowfall Totals: 12-20", locally 24"+ Snowfall Rates: 1-2"/hour late Sunday evening into Monday morning. Rates could approach or exceed 3"/hour in some locales. Winds: Sustained NE 20 to 40 mph, gusts 50 to 60 mph late Sunday night through Monday. Isolated gusts up to 70 mph across E LI. Scattered power outages and downed tree limbs are possible from the strong winds and heavy wet snow. A few stats... This is the first Blizzard Warning in effect for NYC since 2017. Islip has never recorded 20" from a single storm this late in the season. Central Park has recorded 18"+ from a single storm this late in the season just 3 other times going back to the 1860s.
