I sure am not sad about any maps that show temps in the 50s at some point in the next few weeks, even if just for a day or two.

Me either. The only downside to this winter wonderland is that any outdoor sports are put on hold indefinitely. My son plays tennis and we usually practice when the temps are at least 40F+. But it's been over a week of subfreezing temps and all the outdoor courts are covered with snowcrete until April it seems.

Hiking is too damn hard right now too. Borderline dangerous actually, and I am missing those walks with my pups especially.

NO NHL in February this year- the olympics.  Not a fan of the NBA regular season.  If we can get to mid March we are solid- March Madness, Baseball, Masters, NHL and NBA playoffs.  Thats why we need more snow now.

It's breaking for 18 days and Olympic hockey is amazing. I love the NBA so i'll be plenty busy while i watch the snow fall outside.

My method, though unplanned, worked well. Didn't shovel at all until the next day. Then methodically removed the ice crust in sheets with a hammer and my hands (no shovel). Then shoveled the soft, light snow underneath. Then moved on to next section of removing ice crust. Doing in sections kept exposed snow from hardening, and made a break possible. My back felt it, but could have been much worse. Caveat don't have a really long driveway thankfully. Ended up really glad I didn't shovel during the storm. Those who did had an easy final clean up but also worked during the storm so eh.

I shoveled during the storm, but I’m not sure how much difference it made in the end. I think I probably ended up expending more energy than if I’d just shoveled once, but the bright side I guess is that I was able to drive out the morning after the storm without re-shoveling the driveway. Car handled 4 inches of compacted sleet just fine.

When I got around to actually shoveling (like you, that meant breaking it up and THEN shoveling) was when I started second-guessing my choices, hehe.

I'm at 41% so far for seasonal snow Fall.

I'm pretty sure places to my SW like @clskinsfan is even worse off.

If MBY doesn't reach 20" that's 5 years and running.

I'd give the winter a C grade but soon to be a D if we make it till 2/15 and I'm still stuck at 12" on the season.

The last 5 winters  across Northern MD have absolutely sucked for snowfall.

I’m just over 50%, if using 30 for an average. I should do the math on my 12 winters to see what its been since living here.

Lol. NBA all star game soon. I think some of the knocks on the nba are overrated. Yes, traveling is a problem, but the 90s was a literal free throw shooting contest at times. I remember it and thinking this is not ideal. The talent in the league right now is preposterous overall, they just need to tighten up the gather step rule.

I was at the Knicks Lakers game in the Garden last night and it was so enjoyable.

That’s tuff. Saw a Knicks game there and the Big East tourney when I lived there in 07. It’s really a classic place to watch a game…almost like it was made for basketball.

WBAL just ran a story about the challenges of snow removal and its impact on schools. A portion of the convo centered around un shoveled sidewalks in the adjacent neighborhoods and nowhere in any of the video roll did you actually see someone from the community shoveling sidewalks……because you know, that’s the school’s responsibility.

End of rant. Old man yells at cloud.

PGCPS closed again tomorrow. I think from the current situation with roads and schools this little MECS that we had should probably be in the HECS category. I've been in the DC area, I can't ever recall county schools being closed this many days in a row.

See posts online from a lot of Michigan and New England folks saying they've never experienced anything like this. They're used to snow, but are baffled by the snowcrete.

Looking at the HGR records that go back to 1899 this has been the worst 4 year stretch  ( maybe 5 year stretch soon) since they've been keeping records. First time HGR has gone 4 seasons straight with less than 20" of snow.

Northern MD and the I-81 corridor compared to average has been the worst spot  in the region for several years now lol

I think the overall dry pattern has existed through most of the seasons the last few years  where northern md seems to be stuck in no man’s land between two disjointed jet streams that aren’t playing nicely together for our region.

For sure. I think 2020 was the last winter I hit 30. Been much much less since then
