Just got back from a run up to Carlisle. Had to drop off a package for the younger Ms. J. Went to lunch at the local pizza place just off campus. She told me that her College is all ready for this. The emails have been sent out with instructions and that the Dinning Hall will be open. Took her out for some supplies so that she is not caught off guard. Mainly her ESA Guinea Pig needed veggies. Good thing she did not move her car as any student who is parked on the main street is being told to move their cars to the lot she is in. It was getting filled up. Once I hit the PA line on 15 started seeing all the entrance and and exit ramps brined up and ready to go. Nothing in MD as of yet but I am sure it is coming.

Feb 2014, night after the Super Bowl ice storm in southern PA and northern MD was my worst. That was crazy. Rain and 21° to start. School was out next day and damage all over the place.

Can confirm that was a bad ice storm.

I keep seeing "you don't want this freezing rain". What if I kinda do? I might be weird. But I remember back in like 1993 or maybe 91 when we had something similar to this. It looked like a magical winter wonderland for a week. I remember the first time the sun hit that ice on trees. I just ordered micro spikes for my boots. LFG!

I am with you on this lol. 1994 I think. I was only 5 but I remember the glaciers. It was nuts.

What I don't want is for people (myself included) to lose power.  Otherwise, bring on the ice

I remember crawling on my hands and knees to get up my babysitter's yard to get to her house when I was 6 in 1994.. It was a solid layer of ice. Ice storms are so pretty! Out here in the country it looks scenic when the ice is glistening on the trees. We haven't had a good one in a while. Sleet, fz rain, whatever it is.. bring it!!

I think I was about 14. I'm 47 now. Whatever that is. My brain is in storm mode lol. It was the first time I saw the trees coated in ice with a blue sky and no wind. I also remember the one night during that spell of historical deep winter we also had a low of -4 with 4" of snow. I've never to this day seen snow that dry. It was super fluff. Anyone remember this?

Man if you just read the hyperbole here about the nam “improvements” and didn’t look at the run you would have thought it spit out the blizzard of 93.

so serious question @Negnao and anybody else

Hyperbole.  As a pbp person, this kinda annoys me.  Most people, including me, accurately described the nam panel by panel.  it was colder.  Mets concurred.  Literally described the model as is.  I get the comment tho...because I always have said this is the reason why I'm so cautious and conservative with pbp as to not get people's hopes us because I remember when I used to rely on pbp way back when.  I purposedly used words like "a little..a tad....as to not get people's hopes up.  How else should we describe a difference.  The model literally was colder.  I don't know what other words to use other than the factual ones.

This is the banter thread so this is appropriate. I was just younger than you then. I was in central PA and our front yard had a small hill/slope. I remember swinging myself between footprints while lying flat on my stomach on the slope, imagining I was mario or donkey kong or some other 1990s game lol

I remember hearing about your area up to Red Lion were like a war zone with the damage on trees and power lines. No bueno.

Yeah, once the power goes out and all you can hear are limbs and branches cracking and falling all around, you know you’re in trouble

Right now I like 8-14” for us, but REALLY need to see the NAM Nest not lead the way with torched thermals. Still a nice front end thump and there will be surprises!

NAM is no good up here hahaha I mean snow is snow but oooof

FWIW, I have always liked your PBP and much appreciate the reserved caution.  And that goes both ways, whether it's looking better or worse.  You present it factually and do your best to not impart a bunch of emotion (happy or upset), until the run is completed.  I mean, when it looks better while things are still in progress coming out, you're cautious which is a good thing...and when the final result is in, you'll give the FOLKS or GUYS or maybe even JAWS (if we get an event of that magnitude!).  But even if it's looking like crap, you don't go all whiney about it like all too many in here, you just state that it's not good and "on to the next run", something like that.

The way I remember 1994, we haven't really had anything comparable since. I mean there was only the tips of grass coming through 3" of rock solid ice. Couldn't get my footing. Everything was encapsulated.. I wish we can experience something like that again.. -EPO and +NAO is the ingredients, which we almost have here.. if it wasn't for -3 AO it would probably be more ice and less snow.
