We are going to be grilling out in the elements. Have some Amish market fresh ground beef, all the fixins, brioche buns, corn, chips and homemade salsa, potato chips and dip, and two different kinds of desserts. Football on the TV and a fire in the fire place. It’s a great day :sled:
You just inspired me. Prepping some steaks and shrimp

Credit where its due - 3k NAM got the thermals right, timed the changeover quite well. Whiffed on pre-flip qpf though.

NAM Nest is truly a solid model for thermals but it SUCKS for QPF. This is a big reason I did my forecast like I did and  it seems to be working out, however probably underestimated the total sleet after the snow. These totals post flip are nuts across MD. Went a little too low.

Tbh I was surprised the sleet line blew past us all the way to Harrisburg PA given the arctic airmass we got. I figured the DMV would mix so I gave them 4-8” with 6-10 in the NW suburbs, which seems to have done okay. But I didn’t have southern PA going to sleet just a couple hours after we did!

Really interesting thing to me about driving in this stuff is how much of a difference ground clearance seemed to make. My vehicle has AWD but only has 6 inches of ground clearance. On the plowed but still snow/sleet covered and compacted surfaces I had zero issues.

But on my unplowed street, I just could not get any traction with the snow and sleet keeping the vehicle from settling down to street level. Sitting on top of the sleet, my wheels basically just spun.

Just to get off my unplowed street I had to drive in reverse, which probably only worked because the rear has a bit more clearance than the front and that allowed for a little momentum. Felt a lot like driving on sand though.

Does anyone else get the urge to cook way more than needed during these kind of storms?

in the last 24 hours I’ve made a gigantic batch of both chicken noodle soup and this mid century inherited recipe called “beer meatballs” which are super tasty. Plus a gigantic brunch this morning. Tomorrow morning I’m making my fluffy biscuits. Lol, we could eat all this shit for a month!
